One of our air beds popped this weekend, this is what happens when you let the kids use them as trampoline! So anyway, we need something new, OH thinks just get another airbed. I'd love camp beds and SIMs but car space is at a premium so I wondered how comfy a SIM would be without anything under it. Has anyone ever tried it?

We've never put anything under ours and they're fine - warmer than an airbed too. We've got Vango 7.5cm SIMS and kids were using Higear 2.5cm SIMS but have today bought two 5cm SIMs from Aldi for only £13.99 each - bargain!

They can be and are used on their own, but it depends on other things such as make. I have two sims, both with very soft foam inside. (in my opinion) This does make them easier to roll up after use though. I believe the Vango sim has a much firmer foam, so is better when used on its own, though probably not as easy to roll up again. There is always the option to add a few extra puffs of breath air to help the firmness, and I do add some if sleeping with no camp bed.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

We have used Airic's on there own for years, can't see the need for anything else. Might want to raise them off the ground a bit in future, but only for the hight.
They are 1,000,000 times better then the evil airbed IMO. Warmer, easier to put out, easier to pack up, and most importantly far more comfortable.
Whatever you do, always get two singles rather than a double - you can slide them into a double sleeping bag liner to make a double bed. Then you won't wake your partner with every small movement and sink together in the middle.

SIMs are perfectly good on their own. Putting them on a campbed just gives you extra height off the ground which makes it easier getting in and out of bed and gives storage space underneath.
