So....I plan to buy a double camp bed (posadas double) with sim on top. My current quandry is whether to buy a double sim with the seam/gap in the middle OR one that is solid and in one piece. Ie outwell serenity or vango adventure style. We often end up with one of the kids in with us and I end up in the middle. Wouldn't want to feel like I'm lying on a steel bar lol.

You don't want a double as the middle bar is raised and you would toll off the raised bar even more with the sim over it and whichever way you look at it you won't be sleeping in the middle. Two single 5 cm Outwell relax sims work out the best.

See unfortunately I probably will end up in the middle, we have a 3 year old who often ends up in bed with us when we're camping. I've read on here about many people using a double sim on top with great success (in particular those who also end up with a kid in bed with them) do I'm very very curious about how to achieve this lol. Sick of airbeds going pop (we must've been through at least 6 recently)

We have Kampa slumber plus beds, they are single but wider than normal campbeds at 77cm wide. We use aldi SIMs on top and although they don't go all the way to the edge it doesn't cause any discomfort during the night.
I have slept comfortably with my 4 year old on the same bed but they are rated 100kg max weight.
Honestly, I'm so confused over what to go for. Hubby and I have been *discussing* (read arguing ) about this for months. It didn't take us anywhere near this long to choose the tent lol.

Hi Brickiemum - we were considering something similar (campbed and 5 cm sim) and were in a very similar situation to yourself but may have had 2 in with us so we decided to invest in 4 Outwell single 10cm Sims (from Avantgarde (2011) and Elegance(2012)range - they each are about 65cm wide but very, very comfy and warm. I put two together and cover them with a fleecy sheet and then a normal double sheet which holds them together quiet nicely.
Suits us as no matter what sleeping combination we end up with. Also no fear of toddler rolling onto floor from any height. We opted for singles over doubles as they would be easier to fit in the car.
Brickie, this will be of no help to you but we were sick of air beds going pop, at least one per season, we are now the proud owners of a TT, with kingsize sprung slatted bed with a mattress.
I hope you find a solution, nothing is worse than no sleep night after night from a leaky airbed

2017
April - New Forest(9)
May - Dorset (9)
August - Camping Le Pin Parasol, Vendee (18)
October - East Mersea (8)
and five nights in the one man tent!
forget the camp beds - sims are fine on the floor, save money, pack space and weight, and set up time. a good one will last for years so you can add the bed later, I have seen the vango double and it looks a good piece of kit.
look carefully at the width of mats before you buy.
I like Alpkit but they are out of stock of the big one

Exactly what I was going to say! 2 x good SIMs on the floor, quilted mattress topper over, then fitted sheet and you can have a kingsize bed that's warm and comfy, won't go down and you can lay anywhere you want on it (including the middle).
Check out the Vango 10cm double or splash out on 2 of the new Thermarest Mondoking XXL (side by side, with a fitted sheet over, they won't budge and will create a huge bed!).
