Totally incorrect. Any offer in a shop window, shop, website etc, is an Invitation to Treat. It's an offer for the potential purchaser to enter into a negotiation. The seller may, or may not, decide to accept the buyer's offer (of the advertised price, or some other price).
Only when both parties are in agreement, and the consideration is paid, does a contract exist. In the case of Argos, dealing with them is deemed to be an acceptance of their T&C which say:
4.3 The price you pay is the price displayed on this website at the time we receive your order apart from the following two exceptions:
a) For products reserved online for store pick up or any other reservation service the price you pay is the price in store on the day of collection.
b) While we try and ensure that all prices on our website are accurate, errors may occur. If we discover an error in the price of goods you have ordered we will inform you as soon as possible and give you the option of reconfirming your order at the correct price or cancelling it. If we are unable to contact you we will treat the order as cancelled. If you cancel and you have already paid for the goods, you will receive a full refund.
Of course, what they may do, day-to-day, local discretion basis etc, is one thing. But their official stance is set out in the T&C above. Their standard "Check and Reserve" option does not involve payment up front. Clearly, if it did, the deal would be done - errors and omissions excepted, of course.

My advice is worth no more than the price paid for it
