We have been told that you can buy steps which fit over the tyre of 4x4 vehicle to assist in getting the bikes onto the roof! Can't find any though, has anyone seen them or was my source having a dream... or is this a chance for someone to design a set - which would need to fold flat for boot storage!
I wouldnt have thought that you woud need them for a freelander, as you have a caravan why dont you just use the step from that if you really need help.
Yes there is a step for 4x4s, it sits over the top of the tyre with two small arms that sit behind at the top, the one I saw was made out of aluminium .Im still thinking where I saw them if I remember I will post on here
I've never heard of them but would be interested to hear if you can get them and where. At the moment our Nathan has to put his head through the sun-roof while dad stands on the running board and they get the bikes up and down between them with several trapped fingers along the way!!
I have to use the van step to reach to put the bikes on the back of my motorhome. Find it useful for all sorts of other things too like hanging lights up. That's why I don't use the inbuilt step but carry a separate one.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
thats what sahrak has been looking for but no good for me even with one of the on the wheel i still couldnt reach my disco 's roof the only way i can do that is the stand on the bumper then stand on the spare wheel and grab hold of the roof rack, hubby did say he d buy the proper ladders but i worry that the stupid kids around here would use it for a look out post
tentmad....Ive got a ladder on the rear of my Defender....The children did see it as a novelty, but it soon wheres off.......you can fit a rear ladder on your disco......its much better than a wheelstep ..And its better access...
If the children become a pain.....then wrap a rope from the top rung of the ladder to the bottom rung..and up and down again...several times,.........it works...
Hi, I have the product you have been told about. The name is Qwikstep and was purchased five years ago. It does work and is adjustable for most tyre width's however i have had it widened to fit a 295 tyre. The contact number i have got off the old sale reciept is 0800 0733777. The company is or was (hope they are still in business) based in Barnsley S72 7BR. I paid £44.99 and it has been worth every penny. Hope this helps.
