I'm after some information regarding cooler boxes and our caravan fridge. We go to the south of France most years on holiday but our cooling equipment just can't cope, the box we use is 12v and makes the food sopping wet, not very healthy, and our fridge never really gets cold.
In recent years we've bought a full fridge but the weight of transporting it is now becoming an issue with fuel and space as the kids are getting bigger.
Can anyone advise on the best options re cooler boxes and anything I can do to improve the internal fridge.
We have a few weeks before we go this year so I hope someone can help.
You really need a compressor fridge.i.e a waeco to cope with that heat although they aren't small. If you use the search facility at the top of the page I'm sure you'll find lots of info in this.
As above. A Waeco portable compressor fridge the size of a coolbox, 12v for car use & can be used with coobox transformer on EHU is your answer but at a cost of over £400. To improve your caravan fridge you can fit an electric fan on the outside vents I think. Hopefully another poster can give you further info on this.
The caravan fridge will get a lot colder if you run it on gas, especially to get it down to temperature and then switch over to electrics. If you are staying at a campsite in the south for some time, longer than say a week, check to see if you can hire a fridge from them.
Many sites rent out fridges these days Just ask and you will probably fall on your feet. They are not cheap but it will save all that hassle. We went from 81 to 87 before we got a fridge and even then it was a gas only one We waited another 12 years before getting a 'proper' one. Sometimes life is hard
Just to say thanks to all who responded. We have considered the hire of fridge however its not always an option and is fact is why we have a fridge now as we bought it in France LOL,
