My partner and I have just taken up camping after a few successful weekends away in our small 2 man tent we have decided to "get serious" and bought a much bigger tent (hi-gear voyager 4) for longer stays.
We want to be able to cook our own food and are currently looking at cooking options for our next trip away, the problem we have are there are so many options! And we have no idea what to go for, the stoves that need calor gas are probably not the best option for us as we only have a small car and not much storage at home for the canisters.
We have also seen the poratable stoves that take the butane cans, these look like a much more suitable option for us as they are compact and the fuel is easy to store.
I wondered what the opinion was on these and (or) any alternatives?
Hi and welcome
The small suitcase type cookers would be ideal, cheaper to buy than those using bottled gas and if you buy the canisters in bulk they work out cheaper and if you find one burner isnt enough just buy another one. The Campingaz Bistro is a pretty good and stable model

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
We had a Campingaz or was it a Calor Gas can't remember twin burner stove for many years, then got the Aldi twin burner with grill stove. Both were good, but took up too much space in the car, so we got a fairly cheap suitcase stove which we've had for 4 maybe 5 years now. The gas is easy to get hold of and you don't have the problem of storing the larger bottles.
I have a large 2 burner stove with grill that hasn't been out of the gagrage for 3 years now as I prefer to use the smaller suitcase stoves that run off the gas cartridges. I now have 2 stoves and I find them ideal for camping and trips to the beach.
i have one of these that packs away quite small, uses gas cannisters that are about the same size as a litre jar and gives you the choice of a griddle or gas flame. Had it for years and I love it.
We've used the suitcase stoves for years now... I have 2 of them, and can happily cook meals for 4 with a bit of jiggling about... I've even been known to cook fry-up for 18 at a festival one year! Took ages, but we weren't in a hurry... We also have a tiny little bucket BBQ which takes very little space and in plenty big enough for a BBQ for 2.
I just bought this and you have so many options and it packs up quite small and a really cheap price as i have been looking for a while.

I started camping with one suitcase stove, then bought another one, then replaced them with a Cadac Safari Chef, which is then replaced by my stove of choice which is a Coleman Dual Fuel 2-burner stove.
The main reason why the Coleman Dual Fuel 2-burner stove is the stove of choice is because I can use this even in winter when the cold temperature will make the butane and even the butane/propane gas canisters ineffective if cold enough.
Concur with the others about the need to be cautious when using a suitcase stove due to the risk of the gas canister getting too hot.
