Hi, we have a Montana 6 tent and have just bought a 12v leisure battery with a solar trickle charger to give phones a boost and possibly a light. How safe is it? Should I keep it in the tent or outside or in the car? What about damp/condensation? Or heat? Any ideas or advice most welcome! Thanks
Hi we have for the last two years used a leisure battery in our tent, Never had any problems or anything with damp/condensation. Wouldn't leave it out side it would be too much of a temptation for any light fingers you may have on site. We do have ours in a plastic battery box but it's not water or shower proof.
As above, I'd still have a battery box though removed the risk of shorted terminals. Be aware that lead acid batteries produce hydrogen gas when in use so if its not sealed make sure any battery box is vented. I believe they don't produce a huge amount but left to build up in a sealed container could lead to tears
AFAIK they don't produce anything when being used (ie load) the gas is produced when charging.
hydrogen build up in a small space can lead to explosion, never mind tears :)
