Another cheap & very compact item which I discovered on here, thank you everyone are emergency foil blankets. I bought a pack of 5 for less than a quid each and have used them quite a lot - covering the coolbox in the awning, as a sun shade on top of the awning, insulation under an airbed, extra blanket, wrapping up damp towels on the way home.
Best camping advice I've ever had is don't get cold. Make sure you have enough warm clothes especially at night. A hot water bottle doesn't take up too much room either.
