Hello everyone, we have never been camping before however we are desparate to go!

We have a big tent with porch, big car, 3 kids, sleeping bags, a couple of blow-up beds,  cool box and 1 camping chair! We can borrow a little gas stove.

What would be the best/important things to get first?

We've just found a little campsite not too far from home which seems quiet which would be ideal for our first trip. We'd really like to go for a couple of days next week. We're fed up with dreaming/talking about it, we just want to do it!

Any advice or tips would be much appreiciated :)

Shaz xx

To be honest you have pretty much everything you need use stuff from home maybe get some plastic crockery if you don't want to use the china from home, pots and pans from the kitchen, maybe a few more chairs and away you go.

Wise move to stick close to home in case of any disasters.

I like how the kids got put in as part of the list of camping equipment

Also make sure you have suitable clothing, waterproofs etc. And take extra blankets incase you get cold. And most important a kettle and a stove

Lots of suggestions coming forward..

You seem to be sorted and camping close to home is a great idea if you need to pop home for other things. As long as you have a tent, something to sleep and cook with (if you plan on cooking) your pretty much sorted.

If you only have one chair it might be worth getting more but at the end of the day you can just sit on the grass (if it's dry). The only other thing is some kind of table to cook on...again not absolutely essential but will help.

Take as much from home as possible, once you've been and found you enjoy it write a list of things you may need.

Good luck!

One of my must haves is a carpet - it makes such a difference underfoot in the tent. Soft and warm instead of cold - particularly first thing in the morning and last thing at night - and it protects the groundsheet which can easily be damaged. You can use picnic blankets of course but could be tricky if you've got young children tripping up and sliding around on them. Our carpet is definitely one of our 'best buys'.
