I purchased a new tent in June.Used it first time in July and had some minor faults (BROKE ZIP AND POLE ELASTIC SNAPPING.)with tent.Emailed firm and they agreed to take back tent for repair at the end of our hol in AUGUST.I was happy with this.We have just returned from aweek away and the tent has lots of prob.More elastic broke, poles are splitting, rain came through eyebrow of tent and also the extension let rain in (only rained for 2hrs).There are a number of stiching issues where on close inspection have been patched up with tent glue.I have taken pictures. One lets rain through. What are my rights,i want a new tent or refund,as I don't think the tent will last more than two seasons .The tent is a Kampa sandown 8 and canopy. I will be changing my review on this site. Thanks

Afaik, as long as they haven't already made any repairs to it, you should be entitled to a full refund or new replacement as it's obviously not fit for purpose. You need to return it to where you bought it from too as your contract is with them, don't let them fob you off by telling you to send it to the manufacturer.

I had a new tent last year and whilst away we discovered a small hole in the SIG and the rain bubbled up through it.

I phoned them on my return and they offered to sent me something to patch it up plus a £20 refund. I refused their offer and said I wanted it replacing as it wasn't fit for purpose and I'd paid full price and there was a small fault.

They replaced it for me.

i had my Kampa replaced from the store i purchased it from, as we had a leak, not a problem at all, we called while on holiday. returned it when we got back and walked out with a brand new tent. no problems at all and very happy with the replacement.

after a period of 28 days, a retailer is entitled to a reasonable amount of time to inspect the suspect faults, and it is up to them to to prove whether there is a manufacturing fault or not.

If a manufacturing fault is found it is at the retailers discretion on whether the tent is Repaired / replaced / refunded. basically the retailer has in the reasonable amount of time to make the tent good again.
So you cannot just demand your money back or replacement from the word go.

the retailer may use a manufacturer for there advise again that's up to them, and a reasonable amount of time as per SOG is approx 28 days Although is not set in stone.

the only thing that changes above is if the retailer comes back and says its customer damage, this is a different story so wont go into that

Law on tents is you can pitch it once to inspect it - you did that and found fault that they repaired.

You have pitched it again (to inspect the repair ?!) and found new faults - you are fully entitled to a refund

Just an update.
Have had full refund on tent as they did not have another model left in stock. The company OUTDOORMEGA STORE have been excellent. They picked tent up as promised ,they sent pictures to Kampa who agreed the tent was faulty .I was offered my money back or different tent. There was none in stock I wanted. They kept in touch with me throughout and has only taken a 2 weeks. So now im after new tent again.

What tent was it, there are some great deals around now at this time of year but a lot less choice and you may not be able to see any tents pitched that you like.

Hi, the tent was a kampa Sandown 8 with extension. I have had a look around and like the following...
Kampa croyde 8 (Had a Royal tunnel tent for 7 yrs before purchasing Kampa ,do miss the tunnel)or the Khyam Marseille 9 dlx.
I don't want a tent which you add an extension on, but still want that cooking/wet room area.Im looking around the £300/350 mark.

I think if you look hard on Google you could pick up a deal on the Kampa Woolacombe 6 with a carpet and footprint for £300, its fine for 4 people, has the bedrooms at the back, then a living space then an enclosed porch sort of area. Its not as big as the others you have mentioned but its in the price range and the front is enclosed. The Croyde is great and I love the canopy but its not enclosed unless you buy the extra vestibule and then it might be over the price range.
The Khyam looks nice but you might find its to big for a lot of campsite pitches.

Thanks for the advice ,I found the Kampa croyde 8 for £ 359 at Highbridge tents and also the Khyam Marseille 9 dlx for £330 (using code from this site).I need a tent which sleeps 2 adults and 3 kids (1 boy ,2 girls). The khyman is not much bigger than the Sandown 8 with extension fitted. Also looked at the Royal Atlanta 8 plus canopy.Ive been put off by the way the extension is fitted ,concerns about wind blowing it away. Also looked at a similar model from hi-gear .All within price range.
So ive bit the bullet and gone for the........ Khyam Marseille 9dlx.Seems to be a bargin at this price.Going to my local site campsite by ST.Athens
to try it out once it gets here.
