Has anyone had a problem with there Alko hitch stabiliser making a Groneing noise when turning, I know in the handbook it says it could be due to dirt on the towball or hitch but this seems to be clean . If I back the stabiliser off the noise goes but this is obviously pointless . I have been told there are discs in the hitch that can be changed . What are they like to change although its not very old so should not be worn already . Please help Thanks
I wouldn't expect it to be the pads needing replacement yet, but it's possible they've become contaminated inadvertently.
Like Grampian, I keep a scourer in the car to keep the towball clean and providing this is done, I don't have need to clean the pads. Brake cleaner will do to clean the pads though; thorough clean then allow to dry. Use some fine emery over the towball too to make sure it's fully clean itself.
For further reference, you can download a copy of the Alko instruction manual from here.
I would advise you to go to a car accessory shop and buy an aerosol can of brake cleaner.Spray your towball with it and wipe it off so that you are sure that the towball is absolutely clean. Then spray the towing hitch socket and wipe that clean, this will clean the pads.hopefully this will stop the groaning noises when you are towing your caravan as you can be sure that everything is clean.I was given this tip by the people that serviced our caravan earlir in the summer.Hope it cures the noises for you,I give our towball a quick squirt every time we tow.
