For years I have been a fair-weather camper, but am now taking the plunge and thinking of camping in Sept/Oct. I've just got a EHU lead and now want to purchase a heater, something I can keep on low overnight that won't be noisy. Any advice will be most helpful. I camp on my own in a 4-man tent that has a small cabin and also a small sitting area.

If it's just to you in a small tent and you're planning on keeping it in overnight you might be best with a small oil filled radiator, very quiet and in a small space work well.

Link works fine for me, it is a fan heater but a very expensive one at £43!

We have a basic cheap fan heater that was £12 from Wilkinson but if the noise would bother you then as mentioned a small oil filled radiator might do it!

We have one that we use at home for the smallest bedroom that has no radiator in it.

Hi we use one of these, ceramic heater great for keeping tent warm over night, lots of varying prices though so look around, ours was £21.00 two years ago a Kampa make I think.

Thanks everybody I guess a small oil-filled radiator would work for me. Now anybody know if I need to be careful about wattage as I know EHU has limits.

I used to use the most basic Argos fan heater in my last unheated van and avoided the noise at night by the extremely low-tech approach of positioning it near me and keeping it on for a bit before bed.. going to sleep.. then if I woke up cold I'd flick it on for a few minutes. Fan heaters will heat a space fast.. if you sleep through the cold (I invested in fabulous outwell bags for Winter) then all's well. It's also positioned nearby for a quick flick on in the morning. I never ran into any problems with limits on EHU. I think you have to really take the mickey to get near a usage limit.

Has anyone tried an infrared heater? it seems that most electric patio heaters are infrared which makes me think it may be more efficient for a tent environment? Currently using a fan heater but it struggled in sub zero temps in our 5m bell tent at Easter so looking for something more efficient but still electric.

I have a Delonghi Bambino radiator, both 500w and 800w. The 500w easily kept a Bear Lake 6 comfortable over night.

We have a similar one to this by Quest. It does make a creaking sound when set to oscillation mode, but at night it's not really loud enough to be annoying. We've never actually let it run through the night though. Just enough to keep us warmer in the living room, and to take the chill out of the air in the morning.

For sleeping, a good sleeping bag, thermals, and a hot water bottle is usually sufficient for us. My problem is that I like to sleep commando and need space, so I tend not to zip up the bag at all. However I do wear pyjamas.

Oil free, oil filled rad, silent in operation, heats up much quicker than a conventional rad. Only draws a max of 7amps, We had this in the bedroom compartment last October in minus temperatures,
