After the chew of shoe horning our gear into the car and roofbox ( and pulling it out onto the floor to start again), I have finally had the sense to look at a trailer!
Our general gear weight without food is approximately 225kg including roofbox.
The car can only tow 500kg max unbraked. Looking at an Anssems GT 500-181 with hard lid to fix rails and roofbox. This would leave us with about 125kg spare capacity to take the trailer up to max payload. Its unlikely we will ever have a heavier equipment total.
Kindly asking those withe the knowledge is braked better? or should 373kg inc unladen trailer be ok unbraked? tow car Subaru Impreza wrx Wagon.
many thanks

500kg unbraked is a bit of jip, a decent size Trailer will tip the scales at around 200kg, leaving just 300kg for kit in your case.
Of course going for a braked Trailer say one from the Anssems GT range, would tick all the box's and your limit I would guess will be upto 1100kg, deduct 200kg for the Trailer which leaves you with around 900 kg, which should me more than enough for the most dedicated Glamper.
The downside of course is the cost, for such a Trailer new you are looking at £2500 or so new from a UK dealer.
You could make a trip to Holland or Germany, and save around £1000,, but most of that saving would be spent on the adventure, oh to do!

Braked is better but adds cost and weight.
Why that trailer over something like a caddy for what appears to be half the price?

Thanks
Still looking, such a wide range to choose from.
The Anssems is aluminium and has a lockable weatherproof hard lid onto which I can mount my roofbox and bars. Comes with good reports, but I will look at all possibilities, Brenderup look good.

Hi sopyagm.
No extra Tax to pay if you buy in EU member state, even with factoring in Dover ferry crossing and a budget hotel overnight stop I would have saved £1000 compared to UK prices for the Braked Anssems Trailer that I was considering.
In the end I just added a 520lt roofBox and Trailer Tongue Box to my Lider Alicante Trailer, which with the ABS Lid etc cost me £800 new back in 2009 when VAT was just 15%.
The Anssems was going to cost £2k from Holland, but my plans changed, and I am now saving up for a used caravan, like the Adria SportLine PX (aka Altea Tay 432PX).
So I am sticking with my current set up for the next year or so.
There is just me and Mrs Francais that go camping now, so that leaves plenty of room in the Trailer for kit, with a few bits going in the car.
