The fridge in my Bailey Pageant, Provence,2005/6 does not work. Well not quite true, it heats inside and out, quite hot on all three fuels. I have tried Bailey who no longer use the Thetford fridge and offered no help, I cannot find anyone to help,(even scrap yards)
We have had a new thermostat fitted, expensive....no change. We have a price for a new fridge, very expensiveand we are looking around for help. Any offers ?

We normally use sites with 'hook-ups' so we are considering a mains only type instead of the three way as fitted. Has any member experience of this?

The present fridge has N109-N32-F05L2E as a refernce number on the back and has H-W-D in mm.821-525-543 quoted in the manual.
Desperation is setting in!

One of the first things I will be doing when I get a caravan is to change the on-board 3 way fridge for a far more efficient compressor type, that will run on 12v and 240v mains only, and if a 240v only model is available at a significantly lower price then I would go for that option.

Of course my intention is to use the caravan exclusively in the South of France during summer, at campsites which will have EHU available.

Like you mention this kind of solution is not cheap, and I guess you will be looking at the wrong end of £750 or so to do the job properly.

You have probably already looked at the Dometic offerings, if not drop them an e-mail as I have always found them to be very helpful.

If it's getting hot it might just need getting out and turning upside down to wet the pipes.

Another thing, if it's been off for a long time, it might take up to four hours or more before it starts to cool down. Are you expecting it to start cooling in a few minutes?

Just adding these thoughts in just in case it's redeemable.

I bought a second hand working fridge off ebay and had it fitted by a mobile engineer.

Wouldn't a compressor fridge generate quite a lot of noise when the pump runs ?

It might not seem like much noise, but I would of thought when it's in the confines of a small caravan it might prevent you from sleeping.

Just a thought !

The cheapest solution is just to fit a domestic compressor fridge of correct size to fit into gap. probably only just over £100 & you can fit it yourself. While they are not really designed to be moved, this idea seems to work ok for those that use them. Obviously fridge cannot operate while driving.

We have a Logik Table top compressor running inside our FC (as well as the original fridge) .... virtually no sound ... and certainly doesn't keep anyone awake ... OH is a very light sleeper!
The table top is more efficient than the supplied 3 way fridge ... cools quicker and is better at producing ice.
And, at £90 was a heck of a lot cheaper as well!

Thankyou everyone for suggestions, think we may go for domestic fridge to fit in the space, Thetford are quoting £700+. we are both early 80's and now tend to venture only 6 hours driving from home. so if I put food in really cold at home, it should be ok on destination.
Sad that the glorious heady days of spending weeks in Scandinavia and Europe are behind us
