When I bought my current caravan last year, I inherited a full awning with it.

It is a Trio Sport full awning to fit a 960cm awning rail and it's in two tone grey.

Before using it in April this year, I sent it to the Trio people in Pontefract for them to inspect it and they told me it was perfectly sound except that one of the side panels needed a new zip and awning beading. It cost me £100.00 to get this done. This figure included delivery back to me.

Now this is the rub. I HATE Trio awnings with a passion but I thought that for an outlay of £100.00 I was getting a cheap replacement for the Bradcot Classic awning that I let go with the caravan I traded in.

Anyway we used it for a week as I say back in April of this year but I really couldn't get on with it much as I tried. So I decided to try and sell it. I don't know whether I was asking too much for it (£100 ONO) but I didn't get a sniff. I tried eBay, Gumtree, Practical Caravan and caravan site noticeboards in my area - three of them. All to no avail.

So I'm having one more go here to pass it on to a good home before I take it to the council tip. It is a great awning for anyone starting out and who doesn't want to spend a lot of dosh.

But here's the second rub. I'd like to get something for it but I'll let it go for peanuts if necessary just to get it out of my garage. I will consider any offer as long as it is serious. I intend taking it to the tip on Monday if no one wants it. But I'm saying now that the frame is good for spares to anyone with a Trio full awning let alone using it for the purpose it was intended.

So come on..........roll up. I can't believe that there isn't someone out there that can't make use of it.

Rather than just dump it, could you not donate it to a local charity shop and let them try and sell it, or even reuse the fabric/frame to make other things to sell?

We are local to the Peak district and all its campsites, and sometimes the charity shops in the popular tourist towns do have various items of camping gear for sale, including donated tents and awnings, so may be worth a try if you dont get a buyer on here.

Selling it's components might get your money back i.e curtains,draft skirt and poles.

Not living in a 'touristy" area, the charity shop idea isn't something I had thought of Romany Girl. However the thought of having to drive over one hundred miles to my nearest "TA"(The New Forest), then touting it around the various charity shops in the area - maybe with no success - fills me with dread.

In response to Plasticnut's suggestion. I would happily do this if asked. BTW, there are no curtains. For some reason best known to themselves, the previous owner held on to them!

I'm not interested in recouping my outlay. That's dead money as far as I'm concerned. I really just want it of my way.

Also when you're approaching 70 years of age as I am in a few weeks time, often the least line of resistance with some things seems the best route to take. This is one of those things.

So after several serious attempts at selling it, crunchtime has arrived I'm afraid. It grieves me to have reached this point - it seems such a waste.

Can't help with the sale but just to clarify,the Trio people in Pontefract are Trio Pair who repair awnings of any make. They are not the manufacturer of Trio Awnings. Pete

If you're prepared to dump it would you consider giving it away for free? (your message says you'll take it to the tip but if someone wants it they have to pay?)

Perhaps you could offer it free on here or freecycle......

Yes I will. Obviously it's human nature to try and get something for it but at the end of the day I'm happy to let it go for nothing.

These days we live in a culture of "something for nothing" and I'm no different to anyone else.

If you read my original posting I did actually say that I would let it go for peanuts but still no takers.

Tell me do about Freecycle..............

Freecycle is a forum where people offer items that they want to get rid of that otherwise might end up in landfill - in the hope that "one mans rubbish is another mans treasure" People also request things that they need.

We were given a free awning through gumtree and when we found it didn't fit our caravan we passed it on through freecycle to a family who wanted to try to extend their frame tent. Obviously they didn't get around to it because they then re-offered it on freecycle. Hopefully it didn't end up at the tip because it was a nice awning.
