Be careful if using ice cubes from the supermarket to cool a coolbox. I tried that once and when the ice cubes melted and the water ran out of the plastic bag they were in, filling the bottom of my coolbox, the beefburgers in their cardboard packaging became rather sodden!
Good point, well made, Bob!
I was aware of this (due to tips I read on here, naturally!) so I'll make a point of mentioning it next time I discuss the subject!
All our meat/poultry will either be in the supermarket's vac-packaging, or in our own zip-lok sandwich/food bags. Salad etc will also be in sealed food bags.
Wine/Beer bottles/cans usually form the base layer within the cool box, with everything else lain on top, so no meat etc is laying in water. Our box also has a drain plug.... although another tip I picked up from here was to leave the cold water in the bottom, rather than draining it.... and subsequently (immediately) replacing it with warm air!!

Thanks John. My local Lidl is only five minutes walk away so I'll be paying regular visits now to see if they have any like that.

We have the built in fridge in the FC and also take a 60L table top (Logik) ... have had a table top for nine years now ... firstly when tenting, and now in the FC ... find the extra space invaluable when in hot climes ... keeping drinks cold is a must ... especially water!
And only having to shop every three days or so makes a considerable difference.
Have used coolboxes, but given them up .. fan noise and the fact that they only reduce the ambient temp by 18 - 20 degrees ... so if it's 35 outside, you get warm beer.

Get the offers emailed to you - see here - you know it makes sense
You can also do the same for Aldi, if there's one near to you.
In our experiences with fan assisted (peltier) cool boxes some brands work really well and others not so well infact some instructions are now saying that they only keep cool things cool and are not suitable for cooling warm items.
We have a Waeco Tropicool which works really well and will cool warm things and the fan is as quiet as can be expected. However its not that big so we decided to buy a new Outwell one, well that was a mistake no matter what the ambient temperature was it wouldnt cool anything below 16 degrees so that went straight back for a refund. Next on the list was a Campingaz one with 2 fans great bit of kit but the 2 fans were a bit noisy.
Finally decided to take the plunge and buy a 3 way fridge, albeit a used one, and to be honest its fantastic at cooling and totally silent only downside is its a bit bulky but if you dont mind the size and one comes up at the right price then they really are the way to go in this country

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

I already get the Aldi ones, been getting them for ages, but I can't subscribe to the Lidl ones. I downloaded Chrome a while ago and it screwed up the pc, and any links in any emails I get just don't work - all it does is open another blank window instead of sending me to the site in the link. I suppose I'll just have to log on to Lidl's website manually every week, that's if I remember

That's a PITA. I've never tried Chrome, so can't help you there - I just stick with Firefox.
