Has anyone tried or compared the Cobb and/or the Lotusgrill systems? At first sight, the Cobb could be more reliable compared with the Lotusgrill that has a built in electric fam which could fail, although the Cobb uses expensive specialized briquettes. Any opinions?
The cooker in the van is at the back door, so OH (who does the cooking) doesn't want a BBQ. Size and weight might help you decide which to buy, as that's the other reason we don't have a second method of cooking - we prefer to allocate the room to the folding bikes. Whichever one you buy, enjoy!
We use a Cobb and think it's great. We forgot our Cobble stones when in France last year, so used normal charcoal and it still worked amazingly well-just had to wait longer before we could cook. Good luck with your decision.

Hi, we can't comment on the Cobb but we do have a Lotus Grill. Plus sides are:
1) Only a cup full of charcoal is needed.
2) It is ready to cook in minutes.
3) It has cool sides so can be moved in use.
4) Easy to keep clean.
5) You can pour water over the charcoal container when finished so you can use it again.
Down Sides:
1) Cost, very expensive.
2) Fan could fail.
3) Cooking area not too big but I believe there is now a larger model.
4) Direct cooking only, so if the ambient temperature is cold can struggle to cook.
Hope that helps.

A Cobb is brilliant but ours doesn't get used much as a BBQ any more, it's mainly used for roasting, as it does a brilliant roast. For BBQ I use my Cadac as it's instant, though you don't get the same flavour.
You don't need to buy cobblestones, heat beads work well too and you can buy cheap cobblestone like bricks from Home Bargains that do the job just as well.
Hi Richard04, you will get lots of opinions on here.
Cobb for me. (but never tried the lotus, I did look at it but the fan put me off but I believe that makes it heat up faster along with another way of regulating the heat)
Lots of options / extras . Do I need them all ( keep telling myself that I don't ( must get the height extension soon))
I use the wok the most , and the fry pan although it does need taller sides for me.
Ref cobblestones , I only use these when I need instant heat as they are expensive, I use charcoal bricketts , normally the Australian heat beads they last ages give off great heat , one bag last me ages as I only have to use 3 to 5 beads normally and I do know people who use normal charcoal (as in lump wood charcoal) and they say that's works well.
My only complaint about the Cobb is cleaning when putting it to bed for next trip the central fire area where the grate is for the beads does not come out so ash gets trapped in the holes, makes it hard for cleaning, I also can never get the main bowl or inside the lid back to like new condition on cleaning.
Good luck on your choice

Love the cobb, I bought loads of cobblestones from home bargains.
I do struggle fitting the food in for 4 though, is best for 2. Food takes a while but is always dead tasty. Pizzas are class
