I did move the valve upwards to about 12 o'clock and the clamp is in line with the tyre (central)
I've watched the video again (this is my clamp bob) and it looks as though he doesn't tighten the clamp as securly as I did it. Does it need to be rock solid tight? _ what happens is that as I tighten the clamp it moves deeper into the wheel as it "finds a better grip", by then it has gone further into the wheel which means the face plate won't fit, so the securing bolt for the disc won't reach the hole it is supposed to slot onto. I have tried to tighten the clamp nearer to the edge of the wheel but as I said, it moves inward as soon as you start to tighten it so getting in the way of the disc - the only way I can think of is to put the clamp on with a less firm fit and do it that way - is it imperative to get a tight grip of the wheel? (Iwould have thought so)
It only needs to go into the back of the wheel far enough to prevent the lock being twisted to gain access behind the plate.
The 1st time i used mine i did the same and cranked the arms in as far as i could. That made fitting the plate harder and left 2 dents in the tyre sidewall.
Luckily they are my storage wheels/tyres which must be about 15 years old.
But i never tow with them fitted.
Better than a wheelclamp? 2 old tyres? Tow it any distance at speed and they will probably fall apart so they wont get far?
The important bit is getting the disc solid to the wheel.
Completely my fault Grampian91 - I need a clamp for centrally dished wheels, the problem with the nemesis clamp is that the valve on my wheel is situated on a receded rim and there's just no way of getting the clamp on flush - not enough room to avoid the valve and the valve sits slightly inside the wheel's recess.
I've put the clamp on ebay so not to worry, it was second hand and cost me £35 plus petrol. Hopefully I will get my money back!
I'm keeping an eye open for a second hand Sas trailer clamp (the one which is designed for centrally dished wheels and covers all 4 nuts) but if you (or anyone else, of course) know of a clamp which will fit:
Have you thought of one of these as they will fit any width of wheel and while they do not cover the wheel nuts they do stop the wheel being removed. It depends on the type of chasis you have.
------------- We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
