French made & owned by Trigano which is large European group, so should be ok.

Hi Martin,

From memory Noval are similar to Erde in terms of quality etc Main things to worry about with anything like this apart from the overall condition are tyres and wheel bearings remember these are the only things that will keep it safe whilst on your car.

Bearings are often neglected and often the cause is seen when driving down the motorway first seeing a wheel in one of the lanes and then 10 200meters along there is the car and trailer on the hard sholder !

Check bearings for any noise or roughness by either jacking the trailer up or if small have 2 friends lift a side and then rotate the wheel by hand. listen for any noise, if its ok then holding the wheel with your hands at a 3 oclock and 9 oclock position push one hand away from you while pulling the other towards you and feel for any play. rotate 90 degrees and check again. Any noise or play would suggest further inspection.

Worse case scenario is new bearings required but these are cheap and simple to change so not the end of the world but better to know before finding out the hard way.

Tyres well they often can look very good from the tread wear but with nearly all tyres for trailers and caravans etc it is age that is the issue more than wear on the tread. Check the sidewalls for any signs of cracks you may have to put some weight on the trailer for this to be obvious too. Any cracks at all then change the tyre.

If the above is fine then check the lights pref connected to your tow vehicle. I have seen many lighting boards over the years that have worked fine on the sellers car but do all mannner of strange things when connected to another car. The main reason is that the persons towbar was mis wired initially and rather than sort that the easy option was to mis wire the trailer to make it work ! Simple but often overlooked.

If all the above is good then your on a winner. Just make sure that the extra space now in the car is not used to take even more stuff when you go off on a trip !!! lol

Best wishes
Ian

Make sure you have a spare wheel/rim.
I bought one off Ebay and the biggest problem I had was getting a rim.
The measurement on the wheel studs is metric whereas the wheels on Erde etc are imperial. As mentioned they are French and I think originally sold by B&Q.
I must admit they are brilliant trailers!

Re novaflot bearings I have just had a look at bearing size as told they differ sometimes. It has no grease at all in dust cap etc. dont all bearings need a good greasing?? 6204RS bearing.

Just remember that emptying the car to fill a trailer you car will get a lower mpg and won't hill climb as good as before.
Many moons ago I towed trailer when camping so there was more room in the car but lifting tent and frame on to roof rack was a real pain so I fitted roof rack on to trailer lid lower easier to lift on and off. But I found when going up the same hills as last year was a lot more gear changing. And going down hill a lot more braking had to use gears a lot for slowing down hill so roof rack went back on car with tent and frame.

I had one of these trailers a few years ago, great little load lugger and I extended the sides to carry more bulky items but keep within the weight limit. keep an eye on the bearings, I re greased mine and it ran perfectly.

Good morning. Reinvigorating an old post in the hope I can gain some information. Can anyone point me in the direction of replacement wheel bolts. They appear to be like hens teeth.

TIA

Have a look at the PIK Trailers website for wheel bolts, studs etc.
