hi folks.thought I would let you know about a really good battery lantern. its called a lighting ever lantern in which I bought from amazon uk for about £18.00 inc p & p..its 300lms and runs off 3 dd batterys..its got a 3 mode switch .. bright...brighter..and blinking mode..a hanging handle and you can remove a cover if you intend hanging it up.. I think its a really good light..there a youtube vid and it will certainly light up my dining room in the dark although as with any lantern they wont light all of your tent up its great for tent porch ..bedrooms ect.
Sounds like the smaller version of the one in my link, we got 2 of the 400 Lumen models a couple of years back, £25 each from GoOutdoors, great lanterns that use 4 Cree LED's and run of 6 rechargeable "D" Cell (LR20) batteries each.
LED lanterns are getting brighter all the time, and I would imagine they will soon be passing the 1200 (80watt) Lumens that a CampinGaz single Mantle puts out.
If it is the smaller version of Francais' version, then I suspect it's this one
If it is, then by the looks of it, it's the same as we have, just a different badge... and yes... they are rather good. Excellent for reading too, with the lens cover off. I've lost count of the nights we've camped, but we've used it on each non-EHU trip (we use EHU late Oct to March) but it's still on the original 3x batteries.
I'm certainly impressed with it.
We have two the same, 1 X maplin and 1 x ring branded lanterns, very good and the same as mucker we are still on the same batteries, so don't let the d cell batteries put anyone off this lantern it is excellent.
------------- It's better to ask a silly question than make a silly mistake.
Under a lot of different names and prices!
I got one recently (Ring, Cyba-Lite) for my daughter for camping and it is a very impressive lantern. About £20 from Amazon..
They did have them in Maplin for £14.99 last year but all seem identical and just badged with various brand names. I have seen some double that price. They're really sturdy and ruggedised. The 3 D batteries do make sure that it won't blow over in the wind. Just make sure you use decent batteries in them. I had one in which one leaked and it got into the LED section (probably from being upside down) and it damaged the circuitry and wouldn't switch off.
