Hi,
Does anybody know of a cycle carrier for use inside a caravan for two cycles, or a rear door rack that will fit onto a Hyundai Santa Fe with the rear door spoiler. I have tried Thule but they say the spoiler won't take the weight. I am getting desperate as I am going to Holland soon and want to take the bikes with me.
Cheers

Why don't you think about a Witter Z88 bike rack where the mounting sits behind the towball and you just slot the bike rack into it. Used one few several years when we had a caravan and it worked well.

Hi David, I know the type you mean but we have a removable tow ball so it won't fit. Also the bikes are electric assist bikes with a total weight of 40 kg so that would mess up the nose weight for the car.

You dont want to be hanging 40kg off the caravan.

Even if you have a towball or rear mounted one the extra load on the rear axle maybe too much when towing.

Stick them in the caravan 100% the way to go. Just make sure you dont overload the caravan.

I'd put them in the van and secure with bungees, plus foam protectors between them if they are packed together ... otherwise secure them apart from each other.

You will struggle to find something that will carry 2 assist ( Electric ) Bikes...we have the same problem so eventually went with the Thule Rack that specifically holds the electric bike s and when towing they go in the caravan....the good thing for us is that we tow with a discovery but still have to be very wary of the weight.....

Thanks for all of the advice this is what we have been doing, there seems to be a gap in the market that needs filling. I am going to try using 2 sets of the cycle stands that blueexpo recommends, with a base of ply to enlarge the footprint with some old sleeping bags and bungee straps. I have a tow ball cycle rack for use when not towing, very sturdy with a max weight of 60kg, had it a year with out any problems only cost £150 and has number plate, lights, locks onto tow ball and the securing arms lock onto the bike. A real bargain.
Cheers Phil
