Hi all,

I want to get internet in the caravan, as I have got BT Openzone. But the nearest house that is next to our usual campsite is about 1 to 1 1/2 miles away. Looking at the web, it seems that you can things like yagi.

But with all the different types of receivers and DBi , Mbps. Has anyone got or used a wireless booster / extender antenna ?

Any help would be great

I use an alfa awus036h booster and an external antenna. This set up pulls in a much stronger signal than the internal aerial on the laptop.

I think you are really going to struggle to get WiFi if you are that far from the source. A normal wireless antenna on a router is only going to have a range of about 100 metres and at the edge of that the signal woukd be weak.

A better bet would be to either use a mobile phone configured to share its internet connection or a dedicated 3G (or 4G) device like a MiFi.

If you get a range of 100m from your wireless router I want to know what brand it is!

I assume you have permission to use the wireless from the house that is 1-1.5 miles away? The likely hood of picking up the signal from that distance with any kit on the market today is probably 0%

Hi depending on what mobile phone you have you can tether your device to the phones 3G or 4g mobile internet connection but for streaming videos it would have to be a 4g signal

I don't have a smartphone, I do have a 3 dongle for which I pay just under £16 per month, it works well. I used to have a PAYG dongle from BT with endless problems.

I think you could probably get a cheaper option if you know where to look.

Dont need permission, its bt openzone, there are thousands off hotspots all over the place.

I do have a 3G phone that gets internet and also makes a temp hotspot so that i can get the net through it, but its very expencive and i have bt openzone (free) . Thats whay i was looking for some sort of way for long distance wifi, like on boats (yagi).
