Have been looking at buying a Yellowstone Aurora Cookset for backpacking. Never had a spirit burner/stove before so do not really know too much about them.
How easy is it to get hold of spirits/fluid for the burner?
A man will be along very soon I'm sure to point you in the right direction.
I will say have a look at this. More help than you might want.....
Spiritburner where are you? Sure he'll be of help..

Hi Boxa,
I've not seen or used one of those but by all accounts they are good little outfits & efficient. Not bad value for money. I'd have concerns on how well it would perform in wild conditions without a additional windshield. I'm someone who likes a brew at lunch time regardless of the weather & I hate foil windshields. That's why my preference is the Trangia or similar. I've been using a Caldera Cone for the last 8 years.
If you get one let us know how you get on.
Fuel - dead easy - that's just regular meths or methylated spirit from the chemist or diy store. Just make sure it is meths & not turps, white spirit etc.
Thanks for the help and advice, I was concerned about what fluids I was supposed to use but after what you just said I had a look on B&Q and they have the meth'spirit there.
Have just ordered the stove so will hopefully be trying it out soon, how much fuel do you think I would need for 4nights? How far would 500ml go?
I normally boil the kettle up a few times a day, and would probably be doing most of my cooking on it.
I'd try it at home, outside to get a gauge on how thirsty it is. Alcohol stoves can very widely in fuel consumption. I get away with about 200ml for 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches & one evening meal & maybe 6-8 brews. My Trangia requires more. If you don't get chance to gauge it beforehand I'd take at least a litre. If you need less you can take less next time. When I backpack, my first night is usually at a site where I leave the car & the rest of the nights wild. I use a separate supply of meths for the 1st night & morning so my fuel bottle for the trip is full when I set off.
I was looking at taking a litre to be on the safe side and considering I know what fuel I need I will search for the nearest Diy or camping shop in the area.
My next trek will not be with the car, will be taking the bike so need to travel light hence the reason buying a new compact stove.

For fuel go to b&q and get the 2ltr bio ethonel fuel for fire places only £5. Get less soot than meths and is now recommended to use in spirit stoves.
And a bit of water about 10% and you will get zero soot on your pans and it burns hotter than meths. Hope this helps.

Adding water to the fuel does reduce sooting but lowers the effectiveness of the fuel. I'm always surprised at some outdoor folk being bothered by a bit of soot. A good burnt on layer of soot on your pans also makes them more efficient.
IME the only reason to add water to meths is so you can simmer with a stove that hasn't got a simmering device of it's own. Ethanol is ethanol whether "bio" or otherwise, so the title is misleading, however different "meths" can burn differently. I think it must be down to the other 5-10% that makes up final product. I prefer alcohol bruler.
Ordered my YS Aurora fuel burner, with the fuel bottles though I just picked up some cheap ones from the market, would they not be suitable? They are just the same as all the other cheap ones on ebay.

Dunno - there's various ones you could be referring to. You'll have to let us know.
Hi I use a little mini trangia when I go shore fishing and have used it in some pretty windy conditions and it has been fine , it is a brilliant little stove
