Having seen some recent posts about the Go-anywhere I am thinking this could be my next purchase (well, it is my birthday today so why not ). Can I use it as a fire pit in the evening and if so is there anyway to reduce the sparks etc. from the burning coals? Would hate to set fire to a tent - ours or someone else's!!.

Is there anything that can be burnt that doesn't produce as much smoke/sparks as charcoal? This may be a silly question but thought I would ask!

We tried using a fire log which should be easy as can light the wrapping but in practice it didn't work at all.

We've used it often as a firepit after a barby. Burns fine but the spark aspect very much depends on the "log" being used. Needs trial and error to find the best option, if you're close to the tent.

Of course, if I was actually any use at all, I could tell you the exact brand. But I'm not, and I can't. Sorry.

It does work though, and any sparks do tend to die down.

we use ours with a bag of kindling from the local garage or Aldi

I normally throw a pack of instant burning charcoal and let it burn in my Go Anywhere.

Mike, thanks for posting a picture of the WGA being used as a fire pit. It seems big enough for a family of four to huddle around. I intend to use it as both a bbq and a pit. I've researched prices, it seems 2017 cheapest is around £70.

Has anyone found cheaper for the charcoal version?

You could try kiln dried logs.

Kiln dried logs produce much less smoke and sparks. Had fire pit on in garden few nights ago and experimented with air dried seasoned logs vs kiln dried. Much more pleasurable with kiln dried and they burn that wee but longer .

I stayed at Cedris farm last year,they were using old washing machine drums as fire pits,with the pulley wheel still attached as the foot,being stainless steel they never burn out,also plenty of holes to let air through

We stayed in a new forest campsite last year and assumed that there'd be no fires as we were surrounded by trees, but they said we could use those paper wrapped fuel logs and sold us a couple. They don't spit and are good for around 2 hours (the pack quotes longer but I assume this is for a woodburner where it'll burn slower). We threw it on my go anywhere after we'd finished cooking and they worked a treat.

I always have one packed inside the bbq just in case now. I just pick them up from the supermarket - usually on the shelf with firelighters, bin bags etc.

I too have been eyeing up a Go-Anywhere and now I've got the wife into family camping am looking at this as the opportunity to get one.
Annoyingly last year I found one for £50 but never took the plunge. Cheapest i've found is £71.95 then potentially 10% off if you want to use GoOutdoors Price promise
