The solar cell sections in the photo are rectangular, this suggests that they are polycrystalline, monochrystalline solar cells are cut from circular crystals and some have rounded corners. This unit should be charged from the mains before leaving home and then you have to hope that the solar pad can top it up ahead of how much you are using it.
The hanging light is little more than a garden light with a hook.
------------- Enjoy the liveliness of the syntax.

Looking at the links your current lamp is 15 lm but the other doesn't state power output. If £20 is your budget I would go for one of these and one of these and you have enough change to buy as many rechargeable batteries you'll need. We have a 24led rolson lamp and find it doesn't light the whole (5m bell) tent but perfect for getting changed by and I could probably read by it if I wanted.
After having a few solar powered items fail I will be going this route as it also means no need to have a cable to the solar unit and the solar unit can be left on the dash of the car if out all day.

Thanks, we've got a couple of the little Rolson round one so might go for one for those camping lights. I've seen another solar camping lantern I might go for.
I'm doing several Beaver & Cub camps this year with no electric and when we got as a family we don't have electric either.
