I did hear some time ago of a product which acts a bit like a Meta post but for Windbreak poles.

It is essentially a metal spike which is driven into the ground and the top of it houses a cup to take a Windbreak pole.

I've never been able to get the poles of my windbreak satisfactorily bashed into the ground no matter how big a hammer I use - and also you run the risk of splintering the top of the pole if you hit it too hard with too big a hammer.

Off to France in June and we'd like to use our full lenght of the van sun shade with the windbreak just providing shelter from the wind for the cooking area.

I did hear of a commercially available product which would do what I describe. Anyone remember what they call them and where I can get some?

I haven't seen what you are after but to save the end of my windbreak poles I got hold of a piece of tube the same diameter as the poles and welded a flat plate on the end and just slip the over the pole and can now bash away merrily with out damaging the poles.

Looks like they screw in. Did you have to cut the pointy bit off the end of your Windbreak Poles?

Alternatively buy metal garden canes/poles from a garden centre and replace the wooden ones completely. You can bash the metal ones as hard as you like with a lump hammer. They go in much easier than wood because they don't flex when you bash them.

I now have the type of windbreak with guy lines and they are much easier to put up and break down into a small bag for packing away.

I used to have the same problemwhen trying to put my windbreaker up on stoney ground, what i do now is hammer a long chisel into the ground to make the hole remove it then hammer the pole in.
dont over do it or you wont get the poles out again without a struggle

I haven't altered my windbreaks in any way - they just slide into the holders.

I'm wondering how the heck you get these out again :). Have given up on using a windbreak juts don't have the strength to hammer the poles in when on my own and cant be doing with extra guy lines to deal with.

Mine have a small hole in the top and I find a tent peg or screwdriver slides in so you can wind them in and out of the ground quickly and easily.

We use the ones from Towsure. In the bottom of the tube is a nut so you can screw them in with a 17mm socket with a drill. Makes it easy to screw them in both grass and hardstandings and hard french pitches.
