So I was all set to buy the Lightspeed double airbed after reading largely positive reviews but then it occurred to me that £45 is an awful lot to throw down on an airbed. With that in mind I have looked at the following less expensive options but I have serious concerns about their longevity and was hoping for some more sagely advice from you folks.

I agree, we have an aerobed with a rechargeable pump. They are supreme quality and never go down.
They are a bit pricey, but they are worth it. If you google enough you can find bargains
Yep, not done airbeds for years, and back in 2008 we invested in 2 ThermaRest DreamTime XL's that fasten together to make a large double.
6 years on and they are still like new, definitely money well spent, ThermaRest have now replaced the DreamTime range with the Neo-Air Dream, so even better now I guess if that can at all be possible.
It is little wonder that ThermaRest give a Life Time warranty for the product.
Buy cheap buy twice, unfortunately this is particularly true of airbeds. Unfortunately even the best airbeds can develop a leak especially around the valve (weak point in any inflatable - I think I've replaced all the valves in my car tyres now!). At least if you buy an aerobed you get a decent warranty and I believe, good customer service if you ever need to use it.
We've got the Colman Comfort air beds, they last fairly well, just don't jump on them with keys in your back trouser pocket like my husband did and then wonder why in the middle of the night your side of the air bed has developed a leak!
For Beaver/Cub weekends away I do use a campbed as I can't be bothered to inflate my airbed having pitched the cub tents!
Thanks all. Camp beds and SIMs won't be accommodated in the car we're using and the Aerobeds are just too expensive starting at £80. I do like the look of the Jilong at Tesco although slightly deeper than I had been looking at previously.
Even looking at the Aerobed at £50 I'm not convinced, especially when stacked up against the reviews for the Lightspeed TPU at Costco. There seems to be a consensus that the Aerobed leaks air which is a concern for me at 90kg.
I'd almost pulled the trigger on a Karrimor Double at Sports Direct for £29 delivered as it gets very positive reviews and is a nod over half price.
At that pricepoint it becomes a toss-up between the Lightspeed and the Aerobed which seems to favour the Lightspeed, does it not?

We have an Aerobed Active and whilst I agree that they are great, I can assure you that they can and do go down. I've had to repair ours twice to date, both times a pin hole on a joint on the underside of the head rest. Exact same fault but in different places. The repair kit they provide is useless as well. I always use bike puncture repair kits. I still like the bed though as I find it very comfortable.
