Thinking of making some bread/cake in the cobb - appreciate any tips or hints from those who've tried please, re timings, how much fuel to use etc..

I haven't got around to baking on mine but I found this on the Australian Cobb website:
"Baking bread
Use an easy bake pre-mix product or buy the dough from your local store.
Bread can take up to 45 minutes depending on the method of cooking used.
Bread rolls take 35 minutes in total with only 4 briquettes (20 minutes on one side and 15 on the other).
Scones take approximately 20 minutes with 6 briquettes."
Forgot to say the Australian site has a few recipes too: Cobb Australia
Thank you for the information - will certainly look up recipes on Cobb Australia.
Just been away for a week and used the cobb every day, including a bit of baking.
Nearest I got to making bread was for pizza which came out great. Tried scones which were quick and easy although i turned them half way to even the browning. I did try a simple sponge but it suffered a burnt bottom - perhaps a little less lumpwood next time!

Cobb now sells a baking tin for £3.75. I have one and it's well made, heavy gauge with non stick coating. Most recipie sites I have seen recommend three briquettes or let the heat die down a bit (perhaps after cooking something else) before baking a cake, bread etc. I gave also seen pics of bread cooked in a large baked bean can!
Beer Bread!!!! its the way forward.
This weekend I had a bake off with my son.
we used some well oiled metal camping dessert bowls.
His recipe was some self raising flour dash of olive oil 1/3 sachet easy yeast and enough bitter to make a good dough.
Mine was the same except using cider.
Mixed and left to rise for an hour.
Mine went in first for about 30-40 min.
his was left sitting on the cobb handle for the last 15 min of my cook time.
Both were really nice but mine was more cake like so the beer bread was considered the winner
