Hi all,
The problem I have is apart from no manual for this fridge I also can't get it to work on anything. Gas ignites at back pilot stays on & I can feel the heat venting but no cooling. 12v & Electric is working ( I think) as there is also a heat coming from vent but the fridge is not cooling on either. Just had camper done up & fridge is fitted into a bespoke unit by a professional who said it was connected properly etc so can't understand why it's not working Anyone got any ideas?
I don't think I will be able to get it out very easily so hoping it's something simples!
How old is the fridge? If the coolant has leaked out then it will have had it. Was the fridge inverted for an hour before being refitted? that can help to mix up coolant a bit. Van needs to be level for fridge to work, if you are testing in a sloping drive get van level & try again.
If fridge is empty it won't actually feel that cold inside even after being on overnight. Feel the pipes in the ice compartment, if they are ice cold then it is working. If its old even if its working, don't expect miracles. 12v while driving ain't that effective but parked up overnight on ehu or gas it should cool canned drinks ok unless weather gets really hot, high 20s degC & over.
Not sure how old it is, pretty old tho as the caravan we got it from was scrapped so we save the fridge & cooker. The people we got it from said they both worked perfectly but I must admit we never tried either as they both looked in perfect condition. I take it I am gonna have to take it out then. If the turning around thing doesn't work I take it is knocked then?
There is no really cold parts in it even when filled. There is no door on the ice making part & the metal plate inside there does not get cold. Thanks for the help & info
Turning fridge upside down can help if its working but not that well, if it ain't working at all in any mode then its probably had it with coolant leaked out. Did you take my point about van needing to be level for it to work?
Thanks guys Gonna try & get the fridge out & do the inverted thing. Probably take me ages to get it out but I take it I can try & clean things up a bit back there too just incase.
We have just had the same problem with our RM212 fridge in our campervan. It suddenly stopped working while we were away. The back of the fridge was still warming up when connected to 240v but the fridge wasn't cooling at all. After consulting several forums, we took the fridge out, and did the inverting thing by rolling it across the lawn a couple of times! There was a gurgling noise and hey presto when we reconnected the fridge it worked perfectly. ( I didn't believe it would work either!). Hope this is the same for you too.
I had one on my campervan which just needed turning upside down. I left it for an hour, then turned it back the right way and left it to settle for another hour and it worked on gas.
the 12v part won't do anything except to maintain the temp it is at already (unless you are driving 100 miles+!!), so you will need to cool it down before you go - I never bother with 12v, but simply use it as a cool box, with everything chilled in the house fridge beforehand, plus meals for a few days ahead frozen, plus a couple of ice packs.
Not sure, but I thought the 212 was only two-way, so gas on site and 12v whilst traveling?
ITS alive!!!!!!
Can't believe just turning it upside down would fix it. It is a miracle of ancient engineering I suppose.
Put it on 240 for a couple of hours & within that time I had ice cubes.
I am gonna put it on gas now to see how long it takes so fingers crossed I will be civilised with ice in my Rum as I enjoy yet another weekend in the auld VW
Thanks everyone.
PS
Mine is definitely 3 way & all the ones I looked at on ebay etc are the same . On the look out for the freezer door now.
