Does the colour of a tent matter?
I love the cream/light blue ones but not sure how that would be practical in the rain, muddy kids ect. Do tents clean up well?
I'm thinking that darker colours would hold the heat more and may be very stuffy in summer? Also do the paler ones let in light more? I will probably have 3 lively kids up and about at 3am!
Opinions would be great :-)

Doesn't matter to me, the configuration, height , weight, pack size and cost are the factors I look at .

Perhaps a camping trip to France or somewhere with guaranteed sunshine would require more thought about heat retention.

Some tents have ' blackout ' inners to help with early morning sun, can't remember what they're branded as .

We've gone from one extreme to the other; the Vulcan 600 was midnight blue to black and had a lovely deep mauve inside on a sunny morning; our Palamos is classic canvas cream and lovely and airy.

Good airflow and layout will make the tent work for you; colour is whatever takes your fancy... I like the burnt orange Outwells!

I've had green, then blue and back to green again. Didn't chose it that way, just so happened the tent I wanted at the time was available in that colour.

Those lights out dark inners are as close to useless as you'll get, I wouldn't bother too much about them.

I go for the style rather than the colour but I wouldn't buy a tent made with bright colours, reds, yellows even if I liked the style. I much prefer shades which blend in more to the countryside like beige, green, grey, brown. Blue was a common colour for tents for years but they seem to be less popular now. The lighter colours do let more light into the tent which isn't too much of a problem during the day but can enhance the shadow puppet show if bright lights are used in them at night. I don't know if the colour makes much difference to the temperature inside.

On a nice sunny day a tent can be any colour, happiness will be in your heart and you will not notice it.
When the rain comes and you are stuck in your overcrowded tent with all you family and kit that practical camouflage colour will start to become depressing. Add some cool dark grey sleeping bags to your ensemble and in the shade of your dull tent with the rain hammering on the roof you will become not only depressed but miserable.
So get your tent and sleeping bags in happy colours that express your inner warmth and will keep you happy when skies are grey.

I'd agree, in principle, that it's more important to concentrate on size, layout, spec etc, which then normally means, you get whatever colour that tent comes in.

As we are now looking at Karsten's, that theory goes out the window, as not only do we have to decide what colour to have the main pod, we also have colour options for the sleep extension, the awnings, the rain canopy, the doors, the window covers, the wings, the vent covers... They can all be different colours, if you so wish!! Minefield!!

Lots of folk don't like the light signature blue of my vango tent. I love it! It's bright and cheerful even on a rainy day. On a sunny day it matches the colour of sky. I would hate to have a cream polycotton tent, purely from a practical point of view....2 messy kids and 2 large dogs would make some state of it!

I am not sure I agree with this entirely - lol. Vibrant (hot) colours are known to excite people, true. It is thought that people with brightly coloured cars, reds etc; tend to drive faster than people with cars of more subdued colours.

You will find that office blocks and other workplaces, and also police stations etc; are painted in pastel shades because it has a more calming affect on people using them.

I am not sure I want to be excited with vibrant colours when relaxing on a camping holiday - lol

Colour makes no difference to me - I buy a tent because it fits my needs and has the most suitable layout.

I currently own 2 blue tents, 3 green tents, a pink flowery tent and a red tent!

Yes, the tent has to fit my requirements but absolutely YES, colour does matter to me. Grey all the way lol! Three different set ups and all variations of grey and black. I am a complete saddo and totally OCD about everything matching :)

Brilliant, I think there's a song in there somewhere...

Maybe that's where I'm going wrong (two of my tents are dark green) as I have to use a happy light (my sons name for it) through the winter.

I prefer a green tent purely because it blends in to nature more. And I don't like blue tents because they make everyone inside look sick. If I really liked a tent and they had it in blue and green I would choose green every time, but if they only had it in blue I would look for a different tent.

I like the Outwell Oranges but I would not buy one because I feel it would fade quickly, as would any other bright colour.

I do like my splashes of colour, but I can make that happen inside with a bright sleeping bag, a throw over my chair etc.

LOL Bob! It's okay, the van matches the BBQ. Nothing wrong with a little accent colour lol!

Seriously though, when we bought it as well as fitting the inside we had it re sprayed. It killed me that I wasn't allowed to get it sprayed isilver/grey but as OH rightly said, it would have meant doing inside too and we couldn't afford that!
