Personally, when travelling,I don't like leaving the canisters "in situ" in the stove, even with the lever disengaged.
(..Just consider the amount of shaking and vibrations that may cause the "pin" to chatter against the valve assemble, possibly causing damage to both ..)
What I have done in the past is to reverse the canister in the stove chamber(and replace the plastic protective cap).That way it's still within the stove, for easy storage but the "pin" is protected.
