Hi!!

I'm taking my kids glamping on Thursday and need to get organised! I'm not a seasoned camper and so we are staying in a little hut thing that has a sink, kettle and mini fridge. Plus a communal kitchen with microwave and hob in.

However, I don't care much for communal facilities and would prefer to cook our food outdoors weather permitting. I have a portable suitcase style single gas stove and a disposable BBQ! I'm looking for suggestions as to what I can place these on that's safe. I have a roll up aluminium table but my parents think it's plastic coated so that's out, although I've definitely used the stove on it before now. I'm worried that anything flimsy will just fall over in the wind. I've heard people mention caravan steps for placing a BBQ on but I'm not sure if that would work?

Any tips please, I'm a bit apprehensive and want to make sure the kids are well fed at least!

The sites that ive used that allow charcoal BBQ's usually have a brick pile for you to stack them on.

Not all sites allow them though.

I stand my Weber Go Anywhere charcoal BBQ on a couple of bricks, with a piece of wood in the middle to further prevent scorching.

you can also buy stands for disposable bbq's for around £3 or £4 handy if you use disposables frequently

Thanks everyone

My disposable does have spindly metal legs but I wasn't sure whether they would then get hot so I've bought two large silver roasting trays and cut/stuck them to make a large base to place the BBQ in, with the legs down to give some air flow beneath. This should be OK to then put on a wooden table shouldn't it?

The site does allow BBQ's, no idea if they have bricks to hand though.

I would strong advise against putting a disposable BBQ on a wooden table, unless it is well insulated to prevent scotching underneath.

Personally, if I were to put a BBQ on a wooden table, I would definitely put some wooden slaps on the table first, before placing the BBQ on top.

Why don't you contact the site to enquire if they have bricks to hand, or carry them yourself?

I carry the two bricks and the wooden slap as seen in my pic above inside my BBQ so that I do not have to go hunting for bricks etc. when I am on the site.

We actually bought one of those fold flat cheap (ish) £12 BBQ, which fits a disposable perfectly.
Used several times and folds away to almost nothing when flat.

My disposable is extra large so no idea if it will fit some of the stands I've seen etc. I've now got a small firepit on order from Tesco reduced to £17.50 and will and place the BBQ in that! The site wanted £10 a night to loan out a firepit.

We have the Weber Go Anywhere, and stand this on a cut down lightweight pallet. The pallet is about 30 x 450 cms, and has a piece of scrap metal fixed to the top to provide heat protection. Can then use it on most any camping table. Also screwed two lengths of timber batten to each "end" of the top to stop any sliding of the barbie on its stand. Works a treat. If it wasn't such a pain to post pics here, would happilly attach piccies.

Why do Forums always make it such a palaver to post pics :-(

do you put your fire blanket on the ground and then the BBQ on top? I don't know why I'm looking for clarification - it sounds very sensible. It just seems so easy (and so light weight) that I can't think why everyone doesn't do that!
