Think I have fallen out with Aerobed. We have an Active Double and I also have a Pakmat for when Im in the small tent on my own. I have had to repair the Active four times now (just out of warranty). All of the holes have been in a similar place, they have been on the underside of the bed under the head rest. They are not puntures they are really tiny holes on the seams which you cannot see with the naked eye. To top it off I have just spent the weekend canoeing on the River Wye in Monmouthshire with the lads (stunning btw). Before I went I thought I better check the Pakmat. I blew it up and left it on the spare bed. In the morning it was flat. I have only used it about 5 times and it cost me £60 so I was a bit gutted. Out came the bucket of soapy water and I found SIX leaks on the bed. Again, they were tiny holes around the edge and always near the seam, definitely not punctures. I managed to repair both beds successfully with bike punture repair kits as the repair kit that comes with the bed is useless. I bought the Pakmat from Amazon in July 2012 and it has a 2 year warranty. They have been great, I contacted them today and a courier is collecting it tomorrow for a full refund, no questions asked. I will be using the money to buy something different, possibly the Outwell Dreamboat. I was over the moon with both beds when I bought them but this has put me off Aerobed, possibly for good

Thanks, racey1979 I've found your posting very useful as I have been thinking about buying a raised Aerobed.  Given the prices I was hoping that they would be reliable.  From some of the reviews I've read, including yours, I'm not convinced, they seem a bit hit & miss.

Guess it will have to be the camp bed & sim.

Andy
We've had our aerobed raised platinum king for 3 years now and it's fantastic it's not specifically for camping but we love it
Comes with a 5 year limited warranty which I think is split
2 years for the built in pump
3 years for the bed itself
Or vice versa
If we hadn't have got the aerobed we wouldn't of carried on camping

Thanks, paul+kate, it was the platinum raised double I was considering.  Your recommendation has got me thinking again !! Can I ask what size the storage bag is for your king size?

I bought 10 cm SIMs - these
I used them last weekend and was happy with them. Good value too

Hi andy
Just measured the bed in its bag
It's 700 mm long
400 mm high and 350 mm deep
Here it is in our bedpod with a king sized quilt on it
Just to let you fitted sheets won't fit so we have to use flat sheets
On the website it says tested upto 204 kg
I'd say me and the wife combined would be slightly over that and we've had no problems and wouldn't hesitate to buy another one

Thanks again, Paul, I appreciate you going to the trouble.

I'd given up on the raised aerobed idea but I'm going to have to give it some serious thought now

We have the double dual aero bed so comfy, only had it a year so far no leaks yet, but I'm mindful lots of other campers have had problems with them.

We put ours on top of a possadas double campbed, home from home

We would love a raised bed, the only trouble is we have a Guadeloupe pyramid which has sloped walls. I think the bottom of the bed may touch the fly sheet. The Active is great, I've just lost confidence in it due to the four leaks. It's currently ok, but I will be taking a can of leak detector spray and a puncture kit on our next trip. One more leak and I may see if it burns well on the chiminea. I'm not trying to put anyone off Aerobed, many people are very happy with them, I'm just sharing my experience to let people know they aren't without their faults.

Am now on our 4th aerobed in about 6 years. Had the latest for less than a year so it is going back!
They are so comfortable but so unreliable - catch 22.

I slept on one once and never again. It was freezing cold (and this was in a house) and if there had been someone else on it I am sure I would have been bounced off, or felt sea sick.

I will stick with my 10cm SIM on the floor
