Hello all was not sure where to post so guess ill post here, we are a family of 5 youngest just turned 1 and we would all like to start camping, looking at buying our tent in 2 weeks. Can anyone give us some pointers into best tent budget is £150 max and places to go? I have a 3yr old to. Thank you lucyann
Can't really help with any tent suggestions, but UKCS has a very useful Map Search facility. Just pick a location and tick the boxes for a selection of suitable sites in the area, then check the site details and read the reviews before making your choice.
While you wait for advice from other UKCS members, why not have a read through some of the Camping and Caravanning Club's New to Camping pages?
We are a family of 4 (2 girls aged 2 +4) we have a 4 berth tent but need more room so my advice would definately be to go bigger than the amount of people. The children grow and the tent doesn't :-) We are currently looking at 6 berth tents.
Take a look on line at Go Outdoors as they do have some good deals. If you can raise your budget a little it would open up more choice. Alternatively, try Ebay.
The Obelink Lugano is on the Obelink website for £163 at the moment. (6 berth) The reviews are all in foreign but I google translated them. Seem very good.

I would pay a visit to Go-outdoors and look at some of the erected tents. This will give you a better idea of size, layout etc Vids on Youtube is also useful for this.
If you definitely want new the Obelink Lugano mentioned above looks okay.
As Briffster suggests Ebay/Gumtree are well worth a look. Not only will you get a better quality tent for your money sometimes extras like cooking gear/sleeping mats are included. If you find a tent on there that looks interesting then you can use the tent reviews (and photos) on here to help you decide if that is the right tent for you.
With 5 of you I would look at a 6 or even an 8 berth. You will need a bit of "living space" for eating/cooking and for when it rains...
Definately visit Go outdoors or another retailer that has tents on display Definately get more berths than people as you always need more room. With 3 of us we had 6 berths and that seemed cramped sometimes good luck and enjoy yourselves

Have you seen the 6 man tent for £65 at Tesco?

Mind you, I agree with what everyone else says - if you have the car space go for as large as you can; which probably means trawling the second hand ads.
I was told that a tent-person is either an actual person OR their luggage, so two people need a 4 person tent. We are a couple and we use a 5 person tent (3/2 split), which is just about comfortable for weekends (with Porch for long weekends)
