Hi,
Am trying to find a tent that can attach to my VW Touran similar to this..
http://www.justkampers.com/conversion-parts-and-accessories/campervan/awnings-sun-canopies/awnings/just-kampers-retro-driveaway-awning-for-rhd-vehicles.html
Is this possible? I have been looking at the various systems they attach to the vans and cant work out if its something that can be done and the internet isnt much help as just suggests on for Campers etc..
If not does anyone know if you can get tents similar to side extensions where the top of the tent can go straight over the car to keep water out the door..
What you need to look for are drive-away awnings. The one I would suggest is the Movelite XL, which goes over the top of the door. Most drive-away awnings have a tunnel system and attach in various ways. There are several cheaper versions by other manufacturers, but this is the one I would go for - in fact, I have two - the Square and the XL- for my small and peculiar caravan!
The Movelite looks great. The Straps on the top I take it could go over my MPV and peg to the ground on other side of car to make it water tight (cant really see as the picture is so small)

Hi I use a napier sportz suv tent on my Honda FRV, I stick all the seats down and sleep in the back on an inflatable mattress. I got mine on eBay for under £100. It's so easy to set up and take down, I can do it on my own.
we use a Dorema drive away awning (highlander I believe)as a kitchen dinner although have only ever attached it once using guylines as my car doesn't have the 'figure 8 track' and even if it did I'm not sure how it would be threaded and unthreaded when wanting to leave it to stand alone.
