The camp site I've booked for August are insisting I need a breathable ground sheet. I've told them I have a tent with SIG but they've told me I can buy a breathable groundsheet at the on site shop.

I was of the understanding that a breathable groundsheet won't make any difference with a SIG.

Any advice would be appreciated

I can't see how a breathable groundsheet would work with a SIG.

I'd give them a call again and explain that you have a permanent groundsheet sewn into your tent and would the breathable groundsheet go underneath the tent or inside the tent, I find acting dim usually works.

I do have a breathable groundsheet but I use it as tent carpet on top of my groundsheets which aren't sewn in, I've ever only used it once to save the grass and that was only because it was a very hot week (usually it's chucking it down so I need my plastic ones to stop me sinking in the quagmire)

Usually breathable ground sheets are used inside caravan awnings. Are you pitching on a caravan pitch?   Sometimes campsites put tents on those are they are the EHU ones. I'd give them a call and act dim as Carol suggests.

It's a grass pitch, no EHU. Our tent is already larger than they allow but are letting us get away with it by leaving the car in the car park. I don't really want to fork out £80 for a breathable groundsheet that isn't going to make any difference to the state of the pitch when we leave it.

Im in agreement cant see how a breathable groundsheet would work under a SIG as no air will circulate and the grass will still go yellow.

A breathable groundsheet under an impervious groundsheet is no longer breathable.
Explain this to the site and advise them that breathable groundsheets are meant for caravan awnings.

I explained it......he wasn't going to commit to saying that it was ok not to have a breathable groundsheet but admitted that the rules were put in place long before SIGs existed.

He needs to update the rules then!
