Hi all, I've just bought a second hand Gelert Seabury 8 Tent. One of the tent poles has snapped at the end. I am trying to get a replacement and can't find anywhere that has that size. I've tried tentspares and tentsparesman along with a list of other spares and repairs. Can anyone advise what is the best option? Can I replace with a pole of a narrower diameter?
Thanks

Hi

Just wondering if you got any joy with finding a supplier for the 15mm tent pole?

I've got a gelert zenith 8 and one of the main poles has a broken pole and I'm looking for a supplier to purchase one myself.

To be honest I'm not having much luck - seems a completely random pole size that NOBODY stocks or manufactures, apart from Gelert.

If you have to replace a broken tent pole might it not be wiser to replace it with a wider stronger pole than a narrower weaker pole. Assuming of course that a wider pole will fit in the space provided.

Hi,

OK last question answered first, No a thicker pole will not flex to the degree required by the original pole, the thicker the pole the less flex and if you try and make it flex to the shape of the original pole it will inevitably snap. Also trying to make a thicker pole bend as needed to form the correct curve wont work and mixing them up will just make things worse, even though it is unlikely that you will find one with a Ferrell that will fit the thinner poles.

Earlier Outwell poles where sleeved inside a plastic case which gave the appearance that the pole was thicker than it actually was. A number of people with early Sea's will know this as some of there poles measured 15mm external. However if you opened the end of the plastic coating the pole could then be withdrawn from the case leaving the outer case and the Ferrell in one and the pole section now able to be replaced by simply inserting a new section into the casing and with a little heat applied the end of the sleeve could be re-sealed to hold the pole in place.

Now I am not suggesting your poles are the same as this as I have never had a Gelert but it might be worth checking.

Your find there is a good couple of mm difference between the inner and outer measurements.
