Hi,

I'm afraid I'm after some advice again!

I've seen some 3 watt UV fly/mosquito killers on ebay, for around £9. Does anyone know if they work? We're off to France soon and mosquitoes seem to make a beeline for my OH.

The small ones are generally a waste of time, I bought one for the tent and it was useless.
The type used in shops are usually about 30 watts.

We've got one of the outwell Tennis racket ones. Great for clearing the tent out.

If it's for outside just cover up and use a good mossie repellant.

we have a small battery type one. As Bernie47 said not much use. Can confirm though that the tennis bat type do work. They make a satisfying sizzle noise every time they take one of the little b*******out.

Have you tried Skin so Soft from Avon? If it doesn't work on your skin, you can just spray the darned things and then they can't fly!!

Have to agree the small ones are a waste of money. Do as "Jax" says and try the repellant if its Avon it has to be the BLUE one

I bought one of the blue light ones for a tenner once and watched flies settling on it then flying away again. I don't think it killed a single fly in the short time I had it before it went in the bin.

I have one of the battery bats which do work if you can catch the blighters...beware though...my wife didn't take too kindly to accidentally being belted on the back of the head with it.

Avon's skin so soft doesn't work anymore, they changed the recipe, as said somewhere on this forum before.

As for the UV bug killers? A waste of money - save it for something else, like BEER!!

We have had something similar to this, for several years now .... judging by the considerable number of incinerated insects that I empty out at regular intervals ... it works! Also use the zapper racket ... for fun!

I am wondering if the cheap models just have a blue painted bulb rather than an ultraviolet one, hence they don't work.
