Thinking of buying a tropicool 21 (£140) to take to south of France.  Publicity says it'll cool to 30 below ambient.  I think this will be okay - any views?

Anyone got one - what's your opinion?

If not, its a proper compressor fridge - waeco coolfun ck40 (£200).

Looked at combicool 3 way - but publicity says it'll only cool to 20 below ambient - surely this'll be no good down south - again - what's your experience?

Hi

We use an igloo camping fridge.  It has great capacity and keeps things really cool - even in France on a HOT day.  Got our from ebay for £61 - worth every penny.  There's at least one on ebay at the moment.  Ours is like the one with the corner missing - you'll understand when you have a look.

Hope this helps

For about £140 you can buy a 3-way absorption fridge.

Are you sure about this?  Ours works well at 38 degrees so I find that hard to believe.

I just pulled this from the Waeco web site ... interesting, but too late for me, as I was dissapointed with the performance of my Combicool in Corsica last week. It really struggled to cope with a day time temp. of 34 degrees C.
..................................................................................
Question:
Combicool 3-Way Absorption.

What temp will the combicool (CAB-40) go down to, with an outside temp of 38degrees. Will gas, 12 or 240 volts make a differance.

Reply from: Tech Support     Email:     tech at waeco.co.uk
Answer:
The comnbicool will work in an abient temperature of 20'C therefore if the outside temp is 30'C the internal temperature will be around the +10'C mark. Fridge temperature is usually 5'C. The combicool will be more efficient on mains and gas than 12 volt. If you need a fridge to work in the high 30's then you should consider the CF range of compressor driven coolboxes.

Regards Tech support
