Hi All,

booked our second trip this morning this time for 7 days, we survived 3 days fine but was a very tight on car space.

i have looked around and i prefer the idea of roof bag over a box as i have no where to store a box when not in use, the problem is im finding mixed information on if i need a rack or not.

the plan was to pick up an easy-rack soft roof rack just to assist in the carry but im wondering if this will help with a soft bag as it will surely just droop into the gap?

even with any straps supplied with a bag i will still add an extra bit of security for my own mindset if nothing else.

does anyone have any advice or reccomendations on this topic?

bag i am looking at is HERE

although a 340L option is available so im still thinking between the 2

and somthing like THIS for the roof rack (i have a c-max but its universal)

i would also pack anything required to keep dry in the roof box in a bin liner just to be extra safe (bedding etc...)

Hiyas,
We have a roof bag ...great bit of kit.
We also have a c-max but we got roof bars, these fit into the 'gutters' The roof bag does have a channel underneath & small bars to attach to the roof bars...we also then use a ratchet strap for extra security.
Not had a problem with things getting wet but we do also wrap inside with black bin liner.

excellent, thanks for the quick reply.

ive just ordered one of THESE ROOF BAG'S and when its here ill decide on if a roof rack (and if inflatable or solid) is worthwhile or not.

my dad has a mondeo that he was happy to let us use for the week but there is something about it not being my car that would make me more nervous even if fully insured.

Last year there were enough Mondeo's on the site to start a club.

Seems a popular car with caravanner's and tenter's.

Must admit im on my 3rd. Its starting to get on a bit now though.

my previous to last car was a mondeo with 200k on the clock and it was excellent, but i was getting about 20mpg on it so it was time to say goodbye.

i like the c-max so i dont intend on getting rid anytime soon but as we as a family are really enjoying camping a mondeo or s-max (or similar) may be on the cards for the next cards

Surprising that you can get quite a bit in the boot space of the c-max.
Saying that we would have no beds or bedding without the roof bag !

The bowl & bbq base were there to show we had room left.

In the boot we get:
1 cooking table, 4 folding umbrella chairs, rain cover, front wall & 1st awning on tent, mats for outside tent door, 2 suitcase stoves, all kitchen stuff in plastic box inside another plastic box ( used for food storage when on site ), just-in-case box (all spares & medicines ), main pod tent carpet, large eating table, coleman 6 in 1 tables, small inside pod table, tarp & poles, main tent pod, sleeping extension & clothes in carrier bags.
Taa Daa lol.

Maddie
& no there is no cuddly toy ....he goes on back seat with youngest daughter. !!

We did very well with our cmax last time and removing the middle seat helped a lot too the only thing we really need extra is more clothes and maybe food but there is a few local shops near the campsite but no supermarkets for 12 miles

I'm just hoping for less of a squeeze, also means we can take a bigger windbreak to have a more seculed dining area

Back in the day, early 80's we had a small Mazda 323 hatch back, single room frame tent and 2 wee boys. Ended up with roof rack and camping trailer. If I was doing it over again would still go for the trailer.
