When we got into camping (3 years ago), we chose a Kampa as it was the best fit for us in terms of:
Quality
Space
Price
In that order.
Also, I have to say, I was disappointed in Vango. As an old time camper as a kid, I remembered Vango as being "great" but I felt Kampa trumped them for quality. At that time, Vango were having some QC issues as well.
That is another point, all tents on a good day, are made even (ish)when comparing spec for spec, but that is where the problem lies. To save money, savings have to be made somewhere. For example, the seam sealing on my Outwell is a much better finish than the Kampa (Does the Kampa leak in a conventional storm, NO, it does not), does the Outwell look as though it was handled with a bit more care, yes. Could the Kampa have been a "Friday 4:45PM special", maybe. Not that it matters though as the functionality was not affected.
During that time, we also got a "weekend" tent.
We got an Outwell (heavily discounted).
Comparing the two tents, the Outwell just has a better "finish" in my opinion.
Stitching, sealing, better quality carry bag.
Do not misunderstand, the Kampa (Croyde) is SUPERB and has took a few beatings but from my experience, if the question is:
Does the extra for the Outwell get you "something more", the answer is "YES".
If the question is "Is the "more" worth the extra it costs..." Not so easy to answer.
A 6 berth family tunnel tent from Outwell for us, is just too expensive. Not saying they are not worth it mind you, they are nice tents but for us, the money saved bought extra gear and carpet, footprint etc.
