My quest for a tent continues, sorry for posting yet another thread being the newbie I am to all of this!

I've now narrowed my search to the Vango Isis V 600 or the Outwell Nevada MP. They're very similar tents, really, the Nevada being longer, the Isis being wider - so either would suit me.

However, I've seen a lot of places that Outwell are better tents quality wise? Is this true or just some people being anti-Vango. The Nevada would only be an extra £50 and if the quality is that much better, then I'd go for that.

Any help is appreciated!

There probably isn't much difference these days. Tent manufacturers, like car manufacturers, tend to follow the same guidelines and many tents become pretty much the same. I had an Outwell and now I have a Coleman. I had little niggles with both on design but there is little to choose between them really and many tents now even look the same.

I would now choose a tent on it's price, design, space, and ease of erection rather than the name on the flysheet.

Ah, that's good to hear then. I think I'll stick with the Vango in that case, considering it's larger and cheaper. Thank you!

I have never had a Vango but I have been inside Vangos belonging to other people and they seem pretty good tents to me. If it is larger and cheaper and has everything you need then go for it.

As bob said they're both pretty much the same these days quality wise. Both made in China, same factory I heard on here. Had a couple of tents from vango and outwell, happy with them both, have neither now though. You get some outwell owners showing signs of tent snobbery (naming no-one lol) but I have no idea why as they're not anything superior to any other budget tent maker in the family tent sector.

When we got into camping (3 years ago), we chose a Kampa as it was the best fit for us in terms of:

Quality
Space
Price

In that order.

Also, I have to say, I was disappointed in Vango. As an old time camper as a kid, I remembered Vango as being "great" but I felt Kampa trumped them for quality. At that time, Vango were having some QC issues as well.

That is another point, all tents on a good day, are made even (ish)when comparing spec for spec, but that is where the problem lies. To save money, savings have to be made somewhere. For example, the seam sealing on my Outwell is a much better finish than the Kampa (Does the Kampa leak in a conventional storm, NO, it does not), does the Outwell look as though it was handled with a bit more care, yes. Could the Kampa have been a "Friday 4:45PM special", maybe. Not that it matters though as the functionality was not affected.

During that time, we also got a "weekend" tent.

We got an Outwell (heavily discounted).

Comparing the two tents, the Outwell just has a better "finish" in my opinion.

Stitching, sealing, better quality carry bag.

Do not misunderstand, the Kampa (Croyde) is SUPERB and has took a few beatings but from my experience, if the question is:

Does the extra for the Outwell get you "something more", the answer is "YES".

If the question is "Is the "more" worth the extra it costs..." Not so easy to answer.

A 6 berth family tunnel tent from Outwell for us, is just too expensive. Not saying they are not worth it mind you, they are nice tents but for us, the money saved bought extra gear and carpet, footprint etc.

Both look much the same. I just don't like fibre glass poles which they both have. If weight is not an issue I would go for a metal poled tent every time.

I suppose its down to what your experiences have been over the years with various makes of tents.

I have had various tents over 45+ years of camping and the only tent I have had real issues with was an Outwell monty 6. It leaked all over the place.. all 3 of them, eventually got a full refund.

I have around 7 Vango tents and they all get used, although not as much as I would like as we also have a caravan..no issues with any of them!

Other people will have similar stories with other brands.

For how many people?
Weekeend/Fortnight trips?
Will be camping in a storm or will you pack up if gets that bad?

I see from your other thread that your planning to go away on the 8th.

If in any way possible, I would suggest test pitching a new tent and throwing a hose pipe in the air if possible.

The Nevada would appear to have more ventilation i.e. above the window. And the side door with the porch over is way better in the rain. I wouldn't overlook details like that.

Had lots of tents over the years ranging from one man to 6 man always got Coleman for the smaller tents (first one was great so never bothered looking at other makes) but when it comes to the big ones after trying Vango/Coleman/and others we found the magical outwell Montana 6 and we never looked back had it for 4 years ourselves and have now passed it on to kids who pass it around for there separate holidays still going strong.

Helo, I've got the vango tigris 800xl and it is fab, we've already been on 5 separate week long camping trips and it's survived gale force winds & torrential rain on three occasions, I've had to replace 3 sections of pole but it still water tight! I've enjoyed camping for over 10 years and have been through many tents and this one by far is the best, the fact that it has many windows with zip up 'curtains' is a massive bonus, hope this helps x x

We changed our old faithful tent(Wynnster pegasus 5) late last year, we needed to be able to allow our teenagers to sleep separately.
We looked at a lot of tents. Finally we opted for the Vango Maritsa 700, have been camping in all weathers and it has held up well. although the steel poles make the pole bag pretty much a 2 man lift!

Must admit I do often get tent envy, but I know I an not the only one

I've owned a Outwell and now a Vango, Outwell leaked Vango doesn't. Outwell is just for pure snobbery, it's certainly not because they are better quality!

I have a Vango Icarus 500 and a heavily discounted Outwell Monty 6

Icarus is usually my long weekend tent...And the Outwell with it's steel poles for my main holidays or a day or two longer than the weekend...

Both tents have served me well in some dodgy weather...And I have no real issues with either....

But for sheer comfort...Quality of material...And the added bonus of the steel poles keeping her rock steady in the coastal winds I experience I would say I prefer the Monty to the Icarus....

Should add....Due to me backpacking a lot....Both tents are used 1-2 times a year....My Vango Halo is my tent of choice for those trips.....

Jelboy.

We have been camping in our Nevada for 17 days in total over last two years and its not let water or broken a pole yet despite some torrential rain. The finish is of great quality with lots of nice features.

Best thing to do is look at the Isis and the Nevada videos on youtube and compare the features.

The features we like of the Nevada are:

two side entrances, as well as front entrance. Great for ventilation and light. (I think Isis has one side entrance)

A canopy over one of the side entrances making it useful as an entrance/exit during wet weather, rather than using the sloping front entrance.

All entrances have a mesh option.

Nevada has plenty of large windows which makes the tent very light, and each window has a screens for privacy.

We wouldn't be without the front extension (open fronted type). It adds a great sheltered space for cooking and sitting out in.

The small Vango airbeam we have is of great quality too. I think if I had to choose between a new Vango or a new Outwell in future, it would be down to the features of the particular tent since both seem good quality makes of tent.
