I've recently seen advertised lightweight, almost unbreakable ceramic crockery for caravans. Can be used in oven or microwave. Has anyone used or heard about this? xx

Hi there, I'm not sure about ceramic but lots of people seem to like Corelle crockery which is durable opaque lightweight glass. Argos sell it as well as lots of other online retailers.

If I were to get new crockery, I would get catering quality Arcoroc Opal Tempered Glass Range from Nisbets and other good catering supplier.

I only use white crockery and do not care for patterns.

My current ones are Tesco's Value range, again, tempered glass, probably from the same factory that makes the ones above. However, they have since been discontinued. Good job I bought 4 sets at 7 GBP for 16 pieces/4 settings, and have only broken one of the mugs so far (it was dropped on ceramic floor in the kitchen at home), so plenty of spares for years to come.

Again, white glass only, not to everyone's tastes, however, at 7 GBP for a set of 16, I consider them a very good buy and good value for money, and practical too, as they are quite thin, and not as heavy as stoneware or porcelain.

Blakeney Melamine isn't microwave or oven safe so its use is limited. It stains too.

I think the glass option is good but isnt it heavy?   xx

We use stainless steel everything:

Probably not everyone's cup of tea and not cheap but very durable and last forever. The plates are a really nice shape for things like stews/risottos etc. I even slide one under the BBQ with the cooked things on and use one as a warming plate on the top of my kitchen stove.

We got a Corelle set 12 piece no mugs in Winter Frost finish, to replace our ageing melamine stuff.

Lovely crockery and worked well for our fortnight in Frejus last month.

If you don't want to pay Corelle prices, then go for Arc which is cheap as chips from Makro if you can get access.

Makro sells the whole range of Arc in singles or a little cheaper in packs of 6.

Although I would argue that Corelle has the edge for camping duties.

I've seen some people mention concerns about melamine contaminating food but FDA seems to think they are safe enough FDA advice

But you can't beat the "feel" of real crockery.

Hi, I brought a 16 piece set by Corelle (I believe it is made of 3x toughened glass). It is fantastic, we are able to heat the plates up in the oven (my husband does love a warm plate). Also, when I had a daft moment and knocked the plates over, they didn't break! Would really recommend this brand. Hope this helps
