Hi there

New to the site and board so apologies for a question I'm sure has been asked a thousand times...

My family and I are due to head off on our our first 'major' camping holiday tomorrow. All excited but I'm in need of some advice.

We've gone for an electric pitch and need to purchase a electric hook-up. Purchased this Crusader one from GoOutdords yesterday http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/mobile-mains-kit-p155317?gclid=CjwKEAjwpIefBRCuir7wy-f1kCwSJADXBi2alU2R-PZIiFXW3efdvYtG50-WA4J0Bju3EpDgv1HbSxoCz77w_wcB

After taking it home, it's pretty evident you can only get a maximum of two plugs in. And one if these needs to be a sort of iPhone charger in that it eminates vertically out the plug, not horizontally like most appliances.

I returned it today (Southampton store) but have been unable to purchase an equivalent.

I have two questions. If I do have to go back and purchase it, unable to source a more suitable equivalent, am I able to plug in a muti-socket lead into it? Or would it trip the whole system once I'd plugged in the likes of a lamp or mobile phone charger leads? I'm conscious of 'tripping' etiquette and don't want to disturb the whole site!

Second question. Does anyone know of an equivalent? I have two early riser children and two charged tablets would help with 6am arguments! If I purchase a one socket hook-up can I then plug in my multi-socket? Or is this a dangerous manouvere?

Any help or recommendations would be very appreciated.

There is no problem with plugging in a multi socket extension into the camping hookup.

We got our EHU from go, the same one you have, but husband found the same issue.
He took it apart and rotated the middle sockets through 90degrees so the wire didn't come down.

Thanks both, very useful. I can accommodate (go back and buy it!) for this one trip but will adjust once home.

I have never had a problem using all 3 sockets on this type of EHU with normal household plugs. All you need to do is bend the wires to the side. However, I accept that if you want to use large charger type plugs then they may not fit.

I usually use the top two sockets for things that I want left plugged in like an electric light with an in-line on/off switch and a fridge or coolbox. I then plug an extension lead into the bottom socket and run everything else off that bearing in mind not to run two high power items together. It is more convenient if you use a switchable extension and then you can isolate it although that is not necessary.

I made up a short extension lead with a single trailing socket. I use this to plug in my phone charger.

there is a reason the sockets are the way they are the flaps are splashproof to protect plugs getting wet ie from condensation
