I've just bought some rock pegs which have the plastic head with a hole on one side and a right-angled lip on the other. I could just loop the guyline over the head and I'm sure it would be fine but the head design seems so specific that it must have a preferred way you're meant to attached the line, I just can't figure it out. Can someone enlighten me?

Better still is to use a small claw hammer to extract the pegs. Push the plastic part down a little so that the claw fits under the head of the peg and pull out. A peg puller in the hole often breaks the plastic part. Home-base have really small claw hammers which can also be used to hammer the pegs in.
