Hi Folks,
Just wondering what you trailer type folks think about having remould tyres on the trailer.
The one's on mine are in good condition and were fitted when I bought it last year. I've used the trailer a few times to haul my Band's PA system with no issues.
Is it worth getting them changed out to new tyres or is it a non issue ?? They'll be six of us in my MPV including the grandkids so I don't plan on going over the 60mph limit at all.
Thanks in advance.
I would absolutely not consider it; trailer tyres never wear out treads, all the damage is in tyre-wall aging and you are buying tyres with already aged and possibly abused tyre-walls.
The role of retreads are for applications where specifically the tread wear is rapid, so the wall still has life in it. Exactly the opposite role to trailer tyres.
Well said, JTQU.
I am amazed that anyone would consider remoulded tyres on a trailer. Situation is even worse if they are fitted to the smaller wheels that are on some trailers.
Hopefully the parents will spot the problem and stop the children from going.

Personally, I can't see a problem, if the tyres are in good condition anyway - both walls, inside & out - & the pressures are correct (the two usual reason for tyres failing) and speed limits adhered to. I do several 1,000s of miles on retreads a year (HGV driver) and I've only had 2 punctures, both due to debris on the road & not tyre faults.
Not for me thanks, not worth the risk and I'd say false economy...?
I've had blow outs when I was a HGV driver, but there were 'other' wheels /axles to support me when it happened, not so with a trailer, unless it's a twin axle, but still that might not be enough to keep it upright until you're safely stopped...
Thanks for the comments guys, I think I'll get 'em changed.
at DaveS1,
Please take a moment to read my O P again and maybe temper your reply somewhat. They are my GK's after all.
