I have just returned from Wales where I had a fantastic break, walked up Snowdon, kayaked etc and now realise how much fun camping can be.
I know now I need a towbar fitted to my Vauxhall zafira b car and a trailer to put the camping equipment in ,therefore I am looking for advice on the best type of towbar and trailer/ and prices for fitting inc electrics.
I am going to Cornwall in 2 weeks camping and am looking to get it sorted before then.
All advice is very much appreciated.
Is it possible or safe to attatch 2 childs bikes to top of trailer or do I need specific bike carrier for rear of car.Age of car is 2011.
Personally I would go for 13pin Socket on the towbar wired for trailer use, the connection is far superior to the old 7pin connectors.
Depending on the age of the vehicle I would opt for the dedicated cam-bus electrics, that way the trailer will be linked to the car alarm system, also it will avoid any future warranty issues.
The above is most important for cars that have the Stop Start function, as this becomes disabled when towing, otherwise you have to remember to turn of Stop Start manually each time you drive the car with a trailer attached.
As for trailer, well that's all down to your budget but as a benchmark I would aim for 13" wheels "A" Frame chassis.
Probably 5ft x 4ft as a minimum with extension sides and ABS locking lid, new prices will be probably £1500 upwards.
Have a look at the Anssems GT range, or something like the Brenderup 1205S.
There is a space on the passenger side fusebox for a dedicated towbar electrics unit. This simply plugs into the slot and the socket is wired direct to this unit. This method avoids the need for relays, which can sometimes interfere with the canbus electrics.
