Sorry if this question has been asked before or is a stupid question - cant find the answer anywhere and we are caravan newbies :)
Our tow connection is only 7 pin so only operates the lights on the caravan and doesn't charge the battery or operate the fridge etc.
I get the other half to run the fridge from the leisure battery before we set off on our travels to but is it possible to keep the leisure battery on whilst towing to cool the fridge down?

Unfortunately, the leisure battery doesn't connect to the fridge at all, regardless of how you set the fridge switches. It runs off mains electric or gas only when static (i.e., on site), and will operate from the 12S 7 pin socket (the one you don't have), only when the towcar engine is running.
If you need to pre-chill before a journey, either connect to mains electric or run temporarily from gas.
Alternatively, many folk pack frozen water, milk etc., which helps chilled produce while towing.
Your fridge is not connected to the leisure battery.
The 12v side of the fridge is connected only to the wiring that runs from the car alternator. (12S socket).
This socket will also have wiring that connects to the Leisure battery charging system.

You can simply put in food (already cooled) from the house fridge, plus a few ice packs and some frozen cooked meat or a pint of milk (for another day, for example) on the day you set off and all will keep cool all on its own. Just simply use it as you would a freeze box until you get where you're going. Good idea to get used to lighting it on gas though, as you're bound to need that one day.
You can get an adaptor to hook up to the mains at home as well, if that's where your caravan is stored.
