We
Over our air beds, just single height standard ones from the supermarket but noticed when we stopped in a tipi in April we were cold despite having a double duvet on top of the air bed and a duvet on top of us.
This will be our first time camping in our own tent. (Yay!) just wondering if the camping mat is enough to insulate from the cold as well as lying on a double duvet?
Any ideas or tips welcome!
Any one know what the weather will be like for the last week of August in cornwall? The forecasts I have found seem a bit wishy washy and non committal!
We don't camp much now but we used a double height queen bed and used some of the thin cheap underlay we used below our laminate flooring and a mattress topper, we were always toasty. All the diy stores sell it.
You can actually feel the warmth from the underlay just touching it..amazing stuff.

When I used airbeds I had a picnic rug on the bedroom pod floor. On top of that I placed a foam camping mat although you can now buy insulated ones, gym mats etc. I then placed the airbed on top of that. On top of the airbed I placed two blankets and then a decent sleeping bag.
It was ok in mild weather but was still cold for winter camping so I changed to a campbed with a self inflating mat on top and found that combination a lot warmer.
We have tent carpet ....similar kind to waterproofed picnic rugs under our air beds.
On top we then have fitted fleecey type mattress protectors & then a fitted sheet. We also use pillows & duvets. We have never been cold through the night .
It's free, from a local shop. After you get the tent pitched go to the nearest shop and ask for a big box they're finished with, the biggest they have. Get two or three smaller ones if that's the best you can get.
Homeless people sleep on cardboard. It's well known for it's insulating properties.

We use a folded blanket on top of the airbed and another one over the sleeping bag.
Newspapers get a mention above - if we buy newspapers when at camp, they don't get thrown out each day but go under the airbed as extra insulation

Carpet/picnic rugs, then foam mats for us too, but good sleeping bags. We've found those cheap ones from supermarket not much good. I still have a blanket over the top of bag and fluffy socks, cosy as!
This time of year the ground will be a lot warmer than it was for you in the spring, so you will not need to have too much insulation to feel comfortable.
If you are using inflatables, my advice would be to always take a spare, at some point they will go flat on you!
