Where do people cook when camping?  I've assumed its best not to cook in the tent due to the fire hazard.  We were going to buy a gazebo (no sides) to cook under in France - but I've just read loads of posts decrying gazebos.

So what do you guys do - cook in tent; cook outdoors (what happens when it rains); cook in Gazebo or equivalent?

Lots of people make a "kitchen" area using windbreaks!

If it rains[you asked] Your soup lasts for hours!!

Our tent has a "kitchen" area at the front where I always cook, always have the door open though. Most of the meat gets cooked on the BBQ anyway, and hubby has a large umberella in case it rains.

We cook out in the open away from the tent. If it's raining we either eat out, or cook under the door canopy (as far away from the main tent as possible). We only tend to take a windbreak if we are away at the coast for a week or more.

I make a kitchen area from a windbreak - and have used a large umbrella in the rain.

I usually cook in the tent unless the weather is glorious.  As long as it is ventilated and away from the sides of the tent you should be okay.  We have the Diablo 600 which has a big porch on it so I cook in there.

I mainly use my stove outside, but if it's raining or late at night and freezing, then I use it inside the tent. (Huge shocked gasp!!!)
But I only have a single burner flat type stove which I use on the floor, as opposed to something more elaborate on a stand, and with reasonable precautions, it's been fine so far.

By the way, if anyone jumps on me for making this astonishingly dangerous revelation, I ain't biting!
I know the risks and choose to take them!

We use windbreaks and cook outside the tent. We protect ourselves with a golf umbrella if it rains or eat out. We have cooked under the tent canopy a couple of times but tend not to cos of the fire risk.

 Happy Camping!

Hi,

If the weather is good we use the sun canopy and windbreaks and cook outside with the stove, if it's not so good there is a well ventilated kitchen area in the tent, but I'd rather OH cooks outside because he burns everything anyway.
